A stay in Halle (Westf.) can be shaped around three different interests: time in the countryside, cycling or a cultural focus at the museum. When planning, this selection is more helpful than trying to fit every option into a single itinerary. Halle offers named trails and a museum with a special focus on artists’ early works. The railway can also play a role in planning your day and choosing accommodation. The activity you want to focus on determines which details to check first.

Nature and hiking in Halle (Westf.)

The Tatenhausener Forst nature reserve covers 114 hectares and is located in the Halle districts of Hörste and Bokel. Halle has more than 200 kilometres of cycling and hiking trails. Within this network, the “Haller Spuren” circular hiking trail provides a clearly defined focus: along a stretch of about 1.5 kilometres, it follows the “Waldbegräbnisse” history trail. The route is well signposted in both directions. Look for a green sign with white footprints and the words “Haller Spuren”. Near the end of the circular hike is the “Kaffeemühle” viewpoint. If you want to combine a hike with a clearly identified section of a history trail, this gives you a specific starting point for planning.

A different perspective on two wheels

A stage of the “Radweg für Genießer” starts in Halle city centre and leads over the Teuto ridge, through the Patthorster and Tatenhausener forests, and across the wet meadows in Hörste. This gives the stage a different focus from “Haller Spuren”: here, the emphasis is on a cycling route through several named landscape areas, while the latter is a circular hiking trail featuring a section of history trail, route markers and a viewpoint. Your choice of activity and landscape can guide your planning. If you want to experience nature on foot, “Haller Spuren” offers a signposted circular hike; if you are looking for a cycling stage, you can use its starting point in the city centre and the named landscapes as a guide.

Art as a cultural focus

The Museum of Childhood and Youth Works by Important Artists in Halle displays early works by, among others, Conrad FelixmĂĽller, Paul and Felix Klee, August Macke, Friedrich Karl Gotsch, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Pablo Picasso. The collection focuses on works from childhood and youth. This gives your stay a clearly defined cultural theme alongside the hiking and cycling options. If you like to include different interests in your trip, you can plan a visit to the museum as a separate focus and devote more of the rest of your stay to the trails and landscapes.

Planning rail connections and accommodation

On weekdays, regional train RB 75, known as “Haller Willem”, connects Halle (Westf.) with Bielefeld every half hour and with Osnabrück every hour. Travellers can board and alight at four stops in Halle: Halle (Westf.) station, Hesseln and Künsebeck, as well as Gerry Weber Stadion stop. The stated frequencies apply on weekdays. Check the timetable and the appropriate stop for your specific travel date. If you plan to use RB 75, factor this connection into your daily and accommodation planning.

These different themes give you a concrete basis for planning your trip. If Bielefeld or OsnabrĂĽck is relevant to your arrival or departure, also check the rail connection for your travel dates.
