In Olfen, waterside experiences meet trails, buildings and seasonal guided tours. A raft trip on the Stever aboard the Antonia offers views of the Stever floodplain.
Exploring the Stever floodplain
The Steverauenweg is 8 km long and passes waterways, architectural monuments, Heck cattle and Konik horses. You can explore it on foot or by bicycle. This puts exercise and changing companions along the way at the heart of the experience: the route links waterways and architectural monuments with the animal species mentioned, without requiring you to choose just one way of getting around.
The Stever floodplain offers raft trips, guided tours of the floodplain and bike rides along the Steverauenweg. On the water, the Antonia raft opens up views of the floodplain; along the trail, you’ll encounter the landscape features and buildings described above. The Naturparkhaus Steveraue, which opened in 2022, features an interactive exhibition for visitors of all ages as well as a nest cinema. Check the current opening hours before your visit.
Buildings in different locations
The Füchtelner Mühle is one of Olfen’s buildings worth visiting. Two other landmarks are in different locations: the Dreibogenbrücke is right by the newly created riverside beach, while the Schiefe Brücke is in the heart of Olfen. This lets you choose between a cultural destination by the riverside beach and one in town, without conflating the two structures.
Herb walks from spring to autumn
On herb walks in Olfen, groups and families can discover facts, legends, folklore, fairy tales and poetry from spring until late autumn. Unlike a tour along the Steverauenweg, these are the focus here. You can take the herb walk’s seasonal schedule into account when planning your trip.
The wider travel destination of Coesfeld
The Coesfeld district is characterized by an exceptionally high concentration of palaces, castles and historic aristocratic estates. This regional perspective also helps cyclists plan their trips: the district has a comprehensive network of several hundred kilometres of well-maintained routes. These connect towns, municipalities and districts and run through the parkland of the MĂĽnsterland region. The MĂĽnsterland junction network supports route planning with numbered junctions and freely selectable sequences of numbers. Check local route conditions before setting out. Coesfeld offers some specific differences to help you plan further routes: local circular walking trails in Coesfeld and Lette are 4 to 20 kilometres long; the 30-kilometre Baumberger Ludgerusweg runs between Stift Tilbeck and Coesfeld. For cycling, Coesfeld is the starting point for the Coesfelder Sternfahrt, which offers four tours, and one of the recommended starting points for the main route of the Hohe Mark RadRoute.
