Veelböken combines a forest landscape, storks, cycling and a swimming lake nearby. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: nature and birdlife, a cycling tour or a day of swimming.

Forests, Birdlife and Swimming

Large areas of forest around Veelböken have been barely touched by humans. They provide a refuge for white-tailed eagles. Several pairs of storks nest in the villages of Veelböken and return every spring. This annual cycle may be important when choosing when to travel if storks are a key part of your nature-focused stay. Lake Vietlübbe is nearby and invites residents and visitors to swim. If you plan to make the lake a regular part of your stay, check the local conditions in advance.

Cycling and Getting Your Bearings

For cycling, the Sievershagen–Rambeel section offers a specific reference point: it is 4.9 km long, forms part of the regional cycling routes R 1 and Tour 7, and runs through the municipalities of Hanshagen and Veelböken. The distance refers to this section. Federal Highway 208 runs through the municipal area of Veelböken. The cycling section and the federal highway answer different orientation questions: the route has a stated length and route designation, while the B 208 indicates the road’s location within the municipal area. Check current path conditions before setting out.

Dining in Paetrow

In the village district of Paetrow, on Federal Highway 208, the “Bauernstube” restaurant invites you to eat and drink. Before planning a visit, check whether it is open on your chosen date.

Northwest Mecklenburg in a Wider Context

To place the landscape in a wider context beyond Veelböken, you can explore Northwest Mecklenburg. In the north, the district includes the “Northwest Mecklenburg Hills with Wismar Bay” landscape area; in the south, it includes the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin.” Terminal moraine ridges, gently undulating ground moraine plateaus, sections of steep and flat coastline, meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains shape the district’s landscape. This list therefore covers a variety of landforms, coastal sections and drainage features.

A specific natural area in Northwest Mecklenburg is the “Radegast Valley” landscape conservation area. It covers around 600 hectares between the southern edge of Rehna and Lake Nedder near Gadebusch. It includes the strongly meandering, near-natural course of the Radegast, as well as adjacent grassland, reed beds, wooded areas and wet woodlands. “Meandering” describes a river course with pronounced bends; the habitats listed also include the surrounding areas.

Gadebusch Castle in Gadebusch, in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg, is part of the cultural landscape. Dating from 1573, the Renaissance castle is a rare example of Mecklenburg or North German Brick Renaissance architecture. Its features include reliefs in the regional Johann Albrecht style. The date, architectural form and relief style offer different clues to its architectural classification.
