Pragsdorf combines a distinctive village church with Haussee Lake and the adjoining park. There are also annual festivals, memorial sites and bathing opportunities at nearby lakes. You can make local history and relaxation by the water the focus of your stay, or explore other destinations in the Mecklenburg Lake District.

Village Church and Local History

Pragsdorf Village Church is an early medieval ashlar fieldstone building, formerly vaulted, with decorative features in the Transitional style, probably dating back to the mid-14th century. In 1761, it was given a new upper tower, a new roof frame and contemporary interior furnishings, including a pulpit altar. The building’s design and alterations mark different stages in its history; the year 1761 provides a specific point of reference.

The town’s history also stretches far back: Pragsdorf has been owned by the von Helpte family for as long as records go back, and was first mentioned in a document in 1381 as “Prawestrop”. A memorial stone commemorates Alexander von Bülow, who was Mecklenburg’s chief forestry officer from 1934 to 1943. Forsthaus Bannenbrück is another local destination: it is a picturesque old forester’s homestead.

Haussee Lake, Park and Events

The park by Haussee Lake is a worthwhile destination for an outing. The annual Park and Lake Festival and the municipality’s annual sports festival are both held at the lake and in the adjoining park. If you would like to plan your stay around a festival, it is best to check the specific event dates.

At nearby lakes around Pragsdorf, locals and visitors relax by swimming and fishing. Koppelsee Lake near Pragsdorf is also a popular place to swim and has a volleyball court as well. These options give you several reasons to spend time by the water: swimming, fishing or enjoying a sporting activity by the lake.

Getting Around the Municipality

The municipality of Pragsdorf is well connected to the A 20 motorway via the Neubrandenburg-Ost junction. The B 104 federal highway also runs through the municipality. When travelling to the municipality, you can use the Neubrandenburg-Ost junction on the A 20 and the B 104, which runs through the municipal area, as landmarks.

More Nature Destinations in the Mecklenburg Lake District

The wider Mecklenburg Lake District also offers a range of natural attractions. Müritz National Park is part of the region and is characterised by forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows. Its hiking trail takes visitors through the national park’s landscapes and distinctive features in nine stages: it runs along lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel.

Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through MĂĽritz National Park. These include tours of the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest at Serrahn and trips from the water. As well as the hiking trail, there is a choice of guided explorations offering different perspectives on the landscape.

The Damerower Werder bison reserve is situated on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin, in the Mecklenburg Lake District and in Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park. Visitors can watch the animals there. A forest discovery trail offers climbing opportunities, an ant house, an exhibition with tactile and visual displays, and a dendrophone.

The town harbour in Neustrelitz offers another perspective on the water: from there, waterway travellers can explore Müritz National Park and the Strelitz Small Lakes via the Upper Havel Waterway. As a regional complement to Pragsdorf’s local attractions, a waterway trip from Neustrelitz offers a different perspective.
