There are two ways to explore Klocksin: the lake district forms a waterway for paddlers, while a cycling tour leads through the lake landscape to BlĂĽcherhof Castle and through the Schwinzer Heide. Other highlights include a manor house park, a stargazing site and traces of Ice Age history. When planning your visit, you can focus on the water, the cycling tour or individual places.
Lake Landscape and Ice Age History
The Klocksin Lake District covers about 20 km². It formed during the last Ice Age in a meltwater channel of the northern main terminal moraine. The landscape’s history is also presented at a specific stop along the way: on the “Around the Klocksin Lakes” cycling tour, there is a covered rest area with an information board about how the lake district formed around 15,000 years ago.
On the water, Flacher See, Tiefsee, Hofsee and Bergsee form a waterway for paddlers. If you would rather stay on shore, Flachsee near Klocksin is designated as a bathing area. Swimming conditions vary by season; check them before your visit.
Cycling Through the Lake District
The “Around the Klocksin Lakes” cycling tour starts in the centre of Klocksin and follows a chestnut avenue to Klocksin Manor. It then continues through the Klocksin Lake District to Blücherhof Castle and through the Schwinzer Heide forest. The route therefore connects a start in the village centre with a variety of landscapes and destinations. Check the route details before setting off. Another route passes a stork’s nest in Klocksin: the Ice Age Route goes by this spot.
Park, Garden and Wide Horizons
The romantic manor house park in Klocksin extends all the way to the lake. In summer, visitors can admire large stands of yellow elecampane. At Klocksin’s stargazing site, the horizon stretches far across the fields, and visitors will also find a sundial there.
In the municipality, the BlĂĽcherhof estate includes a dendrological park with more than 100 tree species. The estate park was laid out from 1900 to 1906 and covers eight hectares. The dendrological garden in BlĂĽcherhof is intended to remain open to the public; check access before your visit.
Also in the municipality, the “Blücherhofer Truhe” in the banquet hall mainly offers Low German-language programmes, often combined with guided tours of the park. Check before travelling to see whether a programme is taking place. This lets you explore the gardens and cultural events as separate themes alongside the lake landscape.
A Wider View of the Mecklenburg Lake District
The Müritz National Park lies within the wider Mecklenburg Lake District and is characterised by forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows. The Müritz National Park Hiking Trail explores its landscape in nine stages, passing lakes, ancient forests and inland dunes, and leading to the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours there, including guided walks in the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest of Serrahn and tours from the water. This offers a regional perspective beyond Klocksin’s local paddling and cycling routes.
