Lake Plauer See shapes several aspects of Lenz: the village borders the lake directly, boat rentals and charters are available at Lenzer Harbor, and a route runs right along the lakeshore. Lenzer Höh adds a viewpoint, while the history of Lenz Castle provides a different focus. Water, landscape and history thus stand alongside one another as distinct points of interest. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether boating, lakeside scenery or historical traces should be your main focus.
Harbor and waterways
Boat rentals and charters are available at Lenzer Harbor, and moorings are also provided. Boat services and moorings are separate options: rentals and charters concern boating, while the moorings are a distinct part of the harbor’s facilities. If you would like to connect your stay with the water, this gives you a specific way to experience what Lenz has to offer.
In the wider area around Malchow, the MĂĽritz-Elde Waterway connects Lake MĂĽritz with Lake Plauer See. From April to November, the Malchow swing bridge opens every hour to allow larger boats and regional passenger ships to pass. This is separate from the blue Lenzer Bridge: it crosses the branch canal towards Lake Plauer See and is well worth a visit. The two bridges represent different connections to the water: at Malchow, the focus is on seasonal passage; in Lenz, it is on crossing the branch canal.
Lakeshore, views and cycling
Lenzer Höh is a viewpoint overlooking Lake Plauer See. Together with Lenzer Bridge, it offers a simple distinction when choosing what to see: at the bridge, the branch canal and the direction of the lake are the focus; at the hill, it is the viewpoint above the water. If you are interested in the landscape, Lenzer Höh offers a point of interest in its own right; the bridge, by contrast, is a specific structure on the canal.
Cyclists can board a boat in Lenz and combine a cycling tour around Lake Plauer See with a boat trip. This brings cycling and travel on the water together. It offers a different focus from a stay in which you mainly explore the harbor, the viewpoint or the village’s history.
A route runs from Lenz directly along the shore of Lake Plauer See through a deciduous forest. Its defining landscape features are the proximity to the lakeshore and the woodland. This offers a different perspective from the cycle-and-boat combination: there, the focus is on combining the circular route with a boat trip; here, the lakeshore and deciduous forest shape the route description.
The former Lenz Castle
Lenz Castle was built near Lenz in 1448/49. A double rampart and a ditch between its banks can be seen at the former castle site. However, only a few remains of the once extensive rampart complex survive today, and some are barely discernible. The dates place the castle within its construction history; the rampart form and ditch give the former complex a tangible shape. At the same time, its former size should be distinguished from what can still be seen today: the surviving traces are limited and in places only faintly visible.
