A themed cycling tour of sacred buildings connects Hagenow and Amt Hagenow-Land. Church buildings form a common thread through several named places. This provides a specific cultural focus when planning a stay: you can first decide whether to follow this route or also explore other cultural themes in the wider destination of Hagenow. This lets you consider the cycling route and the additional cultural themes as distinct focal points.

Cycle to nine church buildings

The sacred buildings cycling route associated with the Amt connects Pritzier, Warlitz, Redefin, Picher, Moraas, Kirch Jesar and Hagenow. Along the route, you can visit nine regional and supraregional church buildings. Pritzier is one of the places connected by the cycling route. The places named give the tour a regional dimension; the nine buildings bring its sacred focus to life. This gives you both an overarching theme and several places around which to plan your trip.

Two different cycling experiences

Another cycling tour is the Hagenower Landpartie. It starts at Rathausplatz in Hagenow and ends in Hagenow, with visits to the Catholic Church of St. Elisabeth and the Protestant town church. The sacred buildings route focuses on several connected places and nine church buildings; the Landpartie, by contrast, has a named starting and ending point in Hagenow and visits to two churches. These different focal points can help you decide which cycling tour you want to shape your trip.

Cultural history in the wider destination of Hagenow

In the wider destination of Hagenow, the complex of buildings belonging to the former Jewish community includes the synagogue, built in 1828, a religious school and a ritual bath, the mikveh. The synagogue is therefore part of a complex that also includes educational and ritual spaces. Since November 2010, the permanent exhibition “Traces of Jewish Life in Hagenow and West Mecklenburg” has been on display at the Hanna-Meinungen-Haus. Its title connects Hagenow with a broader regional theme.

The collections of the Museum of Everyday Culture of the GRIESEN GEGEND comprise several thousand objects relating to the history of the town, crafts and the folklore of southwestern Mecklenburg. One of the main focuses is the Jabelheide folklore collection from villages in the heart of the Griesen Gegend. Alongside Jewish history, the cultural themes of town history, crafts and folklore are also represented in the Hagenow area.

The Hagenow Water Tower is a brick building with Gothic windows, built between 1905 and 1908. Hagenow’s smallest house also offers a specific architectural point of interest: it is a side-hall gable house at Königsstraße 15. The inscription on its beam gives 1751 as the year it was built; the house was renovated in 1993. These buildings offer a different focus from the sacred buildings route and complement the view of Hagenow’s history with architecture and building styles.

Choose a focus for your stay

When planning your trip, you can first decide whether to focus mainly on the cycling route to the sacred buildings, the Hagenower Landpartie, or also the cultural history of the wider destination of Hagenow. These themes give you a starting point for searching for accommodation: look for hotels for your travel dates and choose based on the places and themes that matter to your stay.
