A freely accessible circular trail with stops covering nature and farm history, along with a garden offering plenty of space for nature to grow freely: Bresegard bei Picher brings farm and nature themes together in an engaging way. A central point of interest is Hof Birkenkamp. Alongside the nature trail, its visitor program includes guided animal walks, a farm shop and environmental education activities.
Nature Trail at Hof Birkenkamp
The nature trail is a circular route with 20 stops at present, covering nature, the seasons and farm history. One section of the trail is dedicated to the Elven Path around a protected aquatic habitat. The circular route thus brings together a range of topics rather than focusing on just one. It offers a practical way to explore nature and the history of the farm together.
The number of stops may increase. If you would like to include specific stops in your visit, check the latest information before you go.
Animal Walks, Farm Shop and Workshops
Hof Birkenkamp offers carefully guided alpaca and cow walks. The animals are the focus of both activities, but the animal species differ. They complement the nature trail with a different kind of nature experience: alpacas or cows accompany you on the walk, while the circular route introduces its topics through the stops along the way. Booking arrangements may change, so it is best to confirm your plans in advance.
The farm shop sells fresh eggs from the farm’s own hens, as well as selected handmade products made on the farm and sourced locally. This also gives a visit to the farm a connection to local produce and crafts. If you are interested in practical and creative activities, workshops and seminars on handicrafts and environmental education are additional options.
Nature Garden and Village History
The nature garden with alpacas was newly laid out from 2017 onwards on the grounds of a nearly 200-year-old BĂĽdnerei, a traditional smallholding. Its design includes open spaces to relax, quiet retreats for people and animals, and plenty of room for nature to grow freely. The garden features wild areas, perennial beds, old English roses, herbs and a small kitchen garden; it is open to visitors.
The circular trail and garden each have a different focus: the nature trail organizes topics around its stops, while the garden brings together planted areas and wilder spaces. You can choose which of these two experiences best suits your visit. Another named place in the village is the war memorial on the village square.

Culture in the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination
In the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination, Ludwigslust Palace offers a different cultural focus. It was the former residence of the dukes of Mecklenburg and, together with its park and town, forms an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The palace is the focal point of an almost entirely preserved late Baroque town complex, with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. Inside the palace, visitors can learn about art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries.
