A 150-metre boardwalk leads to the Floating Moor near Sehestedt; the Salt Marsh Adventure Trail, by contrast, is a five-kilometre circular route that takes about one and a half to two hours to walk. These different distances give you a concrete guide when planning. Jade also offers cultural venues and leisure activities, giving you a range of options for shaping your trip.

Moorland and trails near Sehestedt

The Floating Moor near Sehestedt is a remnant raised bog in front of the North Sea coastal dike. It can be reached via the 150-metre boardwalk. The Salt Marsh Adventure Trail in Sehestedt offers a longer route: the five-kilometre trail takes approximately one and a half to two hours to walk. More than 30 information boards along the way explain how the Jade Bay was formed.

In the wider Wesermarsch travel region, the Salt Marsh Adventure Trail Sehestedt leads from the Floating Moor through the salt marshes to the Wadden Sea and back to the dike via Sehestedt beach. This places different perspectives on moorland, salt marshes and the coast at the centre of the experience. The boardwalk gives access to the moor along its own length; the circular route offers a longer walk with a stated time frame.

Culture across churches, crafts and art

The Trinity Church in Jade has stood in its present form since the end of the 17th century. Schönhof Gallery is housed in a Gulfhaus dating from 1872 and has an attached blue-printing workshop. The two venues represent different cultural themes: the history of a church building on the one hand, and a historic building with a blue-printing workshop on the other.

The Jan Oeltjen Artists’ House Association also focuses on an artist in Jade: since it was founded in 1991, its main focus has been the work of Jan Oeltjen. Together, these themes offer a broad picture of local culture without being limited to the same period or form of expression. If you would like to focus your trip more on culture, the church, gallery and artists’ association offer different starting points.

More experiences and seasonal planning

The National Park Experience Station’s laboratory container houses small aquariums. Magnifying glasses, binocular microscopes and binoculars let you explore the Wadden Sea habitat there. The station’s information is available from May to September; check the current seasonal arrangements before your visit.

Jaderpark offers a different focus: it features a climbing and water world, numerous rides and encounters with exotic animals. This leisure offering is quite different from Jade’s nature and cultural attractions. You can decide for yourself which of these matters most when planning your trip.

Jade in the wider Wesermarsch region

The Wesermarsch is characterised by 60 kilometres of Wadden Sea coastline and 90 kilometres of riverbanks along the Weser and Hunte. As a wider travel region, it also offers a perspective on marsh and coastal landscapes. The German Siel Route is a circular cycling route through the Wesermarsch; it passes marshland and moorland, sluices, harbours and towns along the Weser and North Sea coast. Its flat route is particularly suitable for cycling with children or on an e-bike. This regional information adds to the picture of Jade without equating the Wesermarsch with the town.

The circular route’s walking time provides a concrete estimate for one part of a possible itinerary; for seasonal information about the National Park Experience Station, it is advisable to check the current arrangements before travelling.
