Erbhof Castle, Tree Park and the Thänhuser Löwenspur show Thedinghausen from three perspectives: Renaissance architecture, botanical diversity and a walking tour linking historic sites. For planning your trip, it helps to compare them: cultural history is particularly concentrated at Erbhof, while the park and village trail offer different focal points.

Erbhof and local history

Erbhof Castle is a manor house in the Weser Renaissance style. It was built between 1619 and 1624 for Gertrud von Hermeling-Heimbruch. A permanent exhibition is devoted to the history and restoration of the house and includes original exhibits from the period when it was built. The architecture, construction and restoration therefore offer different perspectives on Erbhof.

In the restored Renaissance hall, the details of a single room stand out: a painted wooden ceiling, a tiled floor, a sandstone fireplace and hand-carved window frames. These features shift the focus from the manor house as a whole to the hall’s design. Group tours can be arranged for requested dates; please confirm your preferred date in advance.

The Maria Magdalena Church in Thedinghausen was consecrated in 1870. In comparison, this date is considerably later than the construction of Erbhof in the early 17th century. The two buildings thus offer different historical reference points: the construction of a manor house in the 17th century and the consecration of a church in the 19th century.

Tree Park: diversity and time outdoors

Tree Park covers almost 11 hectares and contains around 450 species and varieties of deciduous trees from more than 70 genera. These figures convey both the scale of the park and its botanical diversity. Other features include walking trails, an insect hotel, a playground and a boules court, as well as picnic areas.

The trails and picnic areas offer a different focus from the historic buildings; the playground, boules court and insect hotel complement the theme of tree diversity with other amenities. This makes a visit to the park different from a tour of the village’s historic sites.

On foot and by bike

The Thänhuser Löwenspur is a circular route through the village. It connects sights ranging from the town hall ensemble and the Old District Court to Erbhof Castle. Those who want to include several sites in their exploration of local history will find it offers a different experience from focusing specifically on the architecture and restoration of Erbhof.

The Emtinghausen-Riede Tour, associated with Thedinghausen, is a 35.50-kilometre cycling route rated easy. Route details may change, so check the route before planning your trip. The Wesermarsch landscape, also associated with Thedinghausen, offers a different focus for outdoor activities: it is considered suitable for Nordic walking, horse riding and hiking year-round. This gives you a named cycling route and several outdoor activities as different options to choose from.
