Offenbach am Main can be explored through a wide range of themes: weather and climate come to life at the Weather Park and SCAPE°, museums take you from leather and print to sports history, and the Green Ring offers opportunities for walking, running and cycling. To plan your visit, consider whether you are most interested in interactive activities, collections or outdoor routes.

Experience weather and climate

The Weather Park is a public park devoted to weather and climate. Its educational and discovery trail illustrates weather phenomena at 15 stations. At the visitor centre, guests can try out how a tornado forms in a column of water, make a personal rainbow light up, and create weather scenes such as storms or thunderstorms with images and sounds. The trail and interactive stations offer different experiences: one focuses on explaining things clearly, while the other lets you try them for yourself.

SCAPE° also explores weather, climate and change, but as an interactive exhibition and experience space with hands-on stations, workshops and events. Weather Park guides regularly offer family and themed tours about weather and climate. If a guided tour is important to your visit, check the specific dates in advance.

Museums exploring materials, print and history

The German Leather Museum explores leather and related materials from different perspectives. More than 30,000 objects document their use around the world and their cultural and historical significance, from early human history to the present day. At media tables, you can touch cowhide, parchment and sharkskin, among other materials; vegan and recyclable materials such as tinder fungus and Piñatex® are also included. Information at the tables explains the properties of the materials.

Public tours and private tours by request are available for all exhibitions at the Leather Museum. Public tours take place on selected Sundays at 3 pm and on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm. Workshops offer the chance to engage creatively with the museum’s themes. As specific dates may change, it is worth checking the latest information before your visit.

The Klingspor Museum brings international book and lettering art to life. In the historic part of the building, the permanent exhibition offers an insight into the museum’s history and the type foundry of brothers Karl and Wilhelm Klingspor, from the ground floor to the attic. Its six collection areas range from lettering and private-press printing to illustrated books and artists’ books, as well as illustration and posters. Those interested in design will find a different perspective here than at the material-focused Leather Museum.

Introductory courses in various printmaking techniques are available at the print workshop in the Bernardbau. They cover the correct and safe use of the presses and tools required, so participants can then use them for their own projects. Course availability may vary; check the current programme when planning your visit.

The Kickers Fan Museum offers another facet of the city’s history. Since March 2007, it has been home to fans of Offenbacher Kickers 1901 e. V. A private collection grew into a permanent exhibition featuring more than 5,000 objects. Alongside art and material collections, Offenbach also shines a spotlight on the history of a football fan community and its collection.

Green Ring, market and regional routes

The Green Ring from Main to Main encircles the more densely built-up inner area of Offenbach’s city centre to the west, south and east. This continuous landscape corridor connects valleys running towards the Main, parks close to the city and open spaces. The Green Ring is directly accessible from much of the city, and its uninterrupted walking and cycling paths provide a route for hiking, running and cycling. This makes it easy to add an outdoor activity to your stay instead of focusing solely on museums and exhibitions.

For a glimpse of local life, visit the weekly market at Wilhelmsplatz. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, it offers fruit, vegetables, cakes, delicatessen and other goods. Market hours may change, so check the latest information if you are planning your visit around it.

The area around Offenbach also has a signposted 30-kilometre cider and orchard tour, one of the routes in and around Offenbach for nature lovers. It offers a different focus from the Green Ring: the theme is orchards and cider, while the Green Ring connects landscapes and open spaces close to the city. Depending on your interests, you can choose between a route highlighting nature and regional traditions and paths within Offenbach itself.
