Egelsbach offers travelers several different themes: local history, cycling and aviation. The production of clothespins is part of the town’s history, as are its historic half-timbered houses. At Bruchsee, landscaped parkland and art meet cycling paths; at the airfield, sightseeing flights and flight simulators take center stage.
Clothespins, half-timbered houses and historic buildings
The Klammernschnitzerbrunnen, a fountain dating from 1990, commemorates the now-defunct clothespin industry. The local history museum in the Arresthaus, an 18th-century guardhouse, displays historic clothespins. Check the museum’s current visitor access information before your visit.
The architecture also offers different points of reference in time: Egelsbach has around two dozen largely unadorned farmhouses built in the Franconian half-timbered style. The Protestant Church on Egelsbach’s Kirchplatz was built in 1614/15. Hofgut Bayerseich is protected as a cultural monument for historical and artistic reasons. Another monument, designed by Michael Hauck, was erected in front of the town hall in 1996.
Bruchsee and cycling routes
In Bruchsee Landscape Park, a central lawn, natural stone walls, an avenue of ornamental pear trees and a planted hill invite you to relax and picnic. The Seelenvogel sculpture at Bruchsee refers to aviation’s pioneering days. The landscape park borders directly on the Regional Park Circular Route.
For a clearly defined cycling tour, try the Kultura Trail “Ride around Egelsbach”: the 26-kilometer loop begins and ends at the NaturFreunde Egelsbach-Erzhausen grounds and has no significant climbs. The Regional Park Circular Route connects projects along a route from Egelsbach via Dietzenbach to Heusenstamm. Check the latest route information before setting off. This lets you distinguish between the fixed 26-kilometer loop and the larger regional route.
Airfield and aviation
Sightseeing flights by plane and helicopter are offered at Frankfurt-Egelsbach Airport; flight simulator experiences are also available. Flight schools and clubs support people working toward a pilot’s license. Check the providers’ latest information before booking. If you would rather watch aircraft from the ground, the Rodizio restaurant at the airfield offers a direct view of the airfield and planes taking off or landing. Check whether the restaurant is currently operating before visiting.
Egelsbach within the wider Offenbach destination
Within the wider Offenbach destination, the Regional Park Circular Route covers 190 kilometers in total. It connects orchards and wetland habitats with artworks, historic sites, viewpoints and play areas; sections can be explored on foot or by bicycle. This regional route contrasts with the specific 26-kilometer loop in Egelsbach.
Also within the wider Offenbach destination is the Egelsbach Evolution Trail. Along the 1.1-kilometer educational trail, 19 information panels explain key developments and events in evolution. The trail begins directly opposite the entrance to Egelsbach Airfield.
