In Bürstadt, local and geological history can be explored in very different ways: the historic trail passes buildings and a natural monument, while the Geological Garden presents a vast span of geological time along a short footpath. There is also a cycling route through Bürstadt, as well as sports and play facilities. This lets you shape your stay around culture, geology and activity.

City history along the trail

The “Historic Trail” is about one kilometre long, runs along level ground and includes eight stops. Its first stop is the historic town hall, built in 1608. Bürstadt’s oldest half-timbered house, dating from 1733, is also on the trail. These two construction dates provide a specific timeframe: the town hall dates from the early 17th century, and the half-timbered house from the 18th century. The trail also passes the historic draw well, a natural monument from the 18th century.

Another historic landmark is the Catholic Church of St. Michael. It was reconsecrated in 1926 after being rebuilt. The town hall, half-timbered house, draw well and church each represent different aspects of Bürstadt’s history; the church also reflects the town’s religious history.

Everyday life and archaeological finds

The Bürstadt Local History Museum features exhibitions about the everyday and working lives of earlier generations. This focus complements the buildings with insights into how people lived in the past. Visits are possible by prior appointment with the town administration; arrange your visit before travelling. The museum’s content may change over time.

Display cases in the town hall feature archaeological finds from Bürstadt, Bobstadt and Riedrode. Their contents may change over time. The museum focuses on everyday and working life, while the town hall display cases present archaeological finds from the three places mentioned.

Geology along a short footpath

The Geological Garden presents the history of the Earth across a period of about 500 million years along a footpath approximately 250 metres long. The garden includes historic boundary stones and geological finds. The trail and the garden offer very different walking distances: at around 250 metres, the path through the Geological Garden is about a quarter as long as the approximately one-kilometre historic trail.

Cycling, sports and play

The “Bergstrasse naturnah – Rheinschleife” cycling route passes through Bürstadt in the direction of the Lampertheim Old Rhine. Local conditions may affect cycling; check them before setting out. For other ways to stay active, the Freizeitkicker grounds are used as a skate track and dirt park. The education and sports campus offers modern sports facilities on more than 68,000 square metres.

The alla hopp! facility is an innovative playground where children and adults can play and explore. Located in the park beside the historic trail, it offers seating; there are also accessible toilets there. If accessibility is an important part of your plans, check the toilet facilities before your visit.

The Waldschwimmbad (forest swimming pool) is also part of Bürstadt’s leisure offering. Check opening hours and seasonal access before visiting. Together, the historic stops, Geological Garden and activity facilities offer different ways to tailor your stay to your interests.
