In Gorxheimertal, the options range from marked hiking trails to a mountain bike loop. Specific trail distances make it easier to compare hikes: among the routes featured here, the G6 is 3.9 kilometers long and the G9 is 8.8 kilometers.

Landscape in the Crystalline Odenwald

Gorxheimertal lies in the southwestern crystalline Odenwald. The municipality extends across the Grundelbach Valley and the ridges to its north and south. Around 46 percent of the municipal area is forested. The Vorderer Odenwald is considered a natural region of the area and is characterized by crystalline rock. At 461 meters, the Daumberg is the highest elevation in Gorxheimertal. The valley, forested areas and ridges give the landscape its varied character.

Choose Hiking Trails by Length and Destination

The marked hiking trail network around the municipality covers just under 36 kilometers. Six official hiking trails vary in length and difficulty. Their starting points are generally on the valley floor along the main road. Before setting out, check the current trail signs and local information about starting points.

Among the shorter options is the 3.9-kilometer G6 Dörrbergweg. It leads over the Dörrberg to the Gängelbachtal and offers a view of the Daummühle. The 4.8-kilometer G2 Gorxenkopfweg offers views toward Wachenburg and Burg Windeck. The G10 Daumbergweg runs for 5.5 kilometers around the highest elevation in the Gorxheim Valley.

The 6.5-kilometer G1 Wachenbergweg is designated as a loop route. It starts at the western entrance to Gorxheim and climbs to the Hessian-Baden Border Trail; a detour leads to Wachenburg. The longer G9 Waldkopfweg is 8.8 kilometers long and leads to the Löhrbacher Höhenweg, the Teufelsstein and the Wingertsberg, offering beautiful views. This makes it possible to compare the routes both by distance and by destination.

A hiking map covers Gorxheimertal and neighboring municipalities. It was produced with the Geo-Naturpark and is available to buy. Check whether the map is available before purchasing; it covers an area beyond the municipal boundaries.

The GO1 for Mountain Bike Tours

The GO1 adds a dedicated cycling option: the mountain bike loop is about 33 kilometers long and includes around 1,000 meters of elevation gain. The start and finish are at Gemaid-Fitz-Platz, by the town hall. The elevation gain adds another specific measure for comparing routes and planning a tour. Check the current trail signs and route conditions before setting out.

Craftsmanship and Practical Information

The church houses a tapestry depicting Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” The tailor Franz Ende made it using 96,000 stitches. Following renovations in 2021, the church and community center are step-free; an accessible toilet is available. If these features are important for your trip, confirm them in advance.
