Bebersee combines a strong connection to its landscape with several cultural highlights: the annual chamber music festival, Open Studios Day in May and the linden trees preserved along the village street. When choosing your destination, it is worth first considering whether you are most interested in the lake and forest landscape, a concert date or the art on offer. This can also help you focus your accommodation search on the aspect you want to shape your stay.

Lake and Forest Landscape in Bebersee

The village lies on Lake Bebersee and within the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, surrounded by forests and lakes. The lake, forest and protected landscape thus form a shared natural point of reference for Bebersee. If you are planning a stay with the landscape as a key theme, the character of the village provides a clear guide. The cultural offerings add their own highlights and provide further pointers when choosing when to travel.

Chamber Music and Open Studios

The Bebersee Festival is an annual chamber music event featuring internationally acclaimed artists. The concerts take place against a backdrop of former military architecture and the surrounding landscape of the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. Music, architecture and landscape together shape the concert setting. The festival returns each year, but individual dates and programmes vary. If you want a concert to shape your stay, check the programme and specific dates before travelling.

Several artists are also based in Bebersee. In May, an Open Studios Day attracts hundreds of visitors. This means there are two distinct cultural options: the chamber music festival and the event centred on Open Studios. If you want to plan around either of these offerings, take the relevant event date into account.

A Historical Trace Along the Village Street

Bebersee developed as a colonist village. Linden trees planted in 1750 have been preserved along the village street. The settlement’s history and the trees connect a historical context with a tangible feature of the village. Together with the surrounding landscape and today’s cultural offerings, they give you several reasons to consider Bebersee as a destination, without limiting your stay to just one theme.

Urban History in the Wider Destination of Templin

In the wider destination of Templin, another cultural focus is the town’s fortifications and architectural history. Templin’s medieval fieldstone wall is 1,735 metres long and up to seven metres high. You can walk along the restored defensive complex, which includes three Gothic brick gates, two towers and 47 Wiekhäuser (wall houses). The Prenzlauer Gate is Templin’s newest and most complete brick gate. The historic gate brings Templin’s more than 750-year history to life.

The Archaeological Town Trail runs through Templin’s historic old town, passing, among other places, the Market Square and Church Square, as well as the town wall. Ten information boards provide background on the respective finds. A walk along the restored defensive complex and a trail with information about archaeological finds are two different options in Templin’s cultural offerings.

Individual buildings also offer insights into Templin’s history. The small St. George’s Chapel dates from the 14th century and was built in the Brick Gothic style. Inside is a wooden sculpture from the 16th century depicting the patron saint George on horseback, in full armour and fighting the dragon. In Rühlstraße, lovingly restored half-timbered houses dating from around 1740 stand in a continuous perimeter block. Guided walks around Templin are offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays, sharing facts and anecdotes about the town. Check the dates before travelling.

Choose Your Stay Based on Your Interests

For planning purposes, you can focus your choice on the aspect that interests you most: Bebersee combines a lake and forest landscape with chamber music, Open Studios and village history, while the wider destination of Templin centres on its town wall, historic buildings and town walks. If a concert, an Open Studios event or a town walk is important to you, factor the relevant dates into your travel plans.
