Dahme/Mark is known for its well-preserved historic town center and its own Flaeming-Skate circuit. This gives visitors two distinct ways to spend their time: exploring the city’s architectural history or taking a tour on the skate route.
Town history between walls and buildings
The town wall of Dahme/Mark, also known as the “Iron Town Wall,” was built mainly from bog ironstone; construction began in the 13th century. The central town hall is a prominent feature of the townscape, built in the Neo-Renaissance style in the 19th century. The wall and town hall thus add different historical periods to the town’s historic appearance.
St. Mary’s Church is also part of the cultural landscape of Dahme/Mark. It hosts choir and organ concerts, orchestral performances and exhibitions. On the outskirts of Dahme/Mark stands a Baroque-style castle dating from the 18th century, which is now preserved as a secured ruin; it also has a castle park. Together, these buildings offer different points of interest for a stay focused on town history and culture.
Walking tours and Flaeming-Skate
A walking tour of the historic town center takes in the town’s sights and follows the town wall. The barrier-free inner-city circuit runs around the wall and enables people with disabilities to enjoy the old town without restrictions. Visitors can therefore explore the sights while also benefiting from explicitly barrier-free access to the old-town experience.
Since April 22, 2012, Dahme has had its own Flaeming-Skate circuit, RK7. If you plan to take this tour, check before setting out whether temporary works affect the route. The circuit complements the city’s cultural attractions with an active touring option.
In the wider travel destination of Teltow-Fläming
The wider travel destination of Teltow-Fläming offers further cultural attractions. The settlement of Baruther Glashütte is a monument of European importance. It is home to a living glass museum with a working furnace; traditional workshops produce one-of-a-kind pieces and small series. Baruther Glashütte thus focuses on the history of glassmaking and craftsmanship, while Dahme/Mark offers a different cultural perspective through its town wall, historic town center and buildings. The Museum in the Monastery in Jüterbog presents regional archaeology, Reformation history and the city’s military history across three floors.
The landscape and the scale of the cycle network also characterize Teltow-Fläming at the regional level: the district has almost 600 kilometers of tourist cycling routes, and 30,414 hectares of the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park lie within it. Teltow-Fläming encompasses gently rolling ridges, broad valleys, protected areas, high ground and lowlands, where visitors can experience the local flora and fauna at close range. These district-wide figures differ from RK7, Dahme’s own circuit: one describes the regional network, the other a specific skate route.
