Baruth/Mark offers different ways to explore history and landscape: from St. Sebastian’s Church, dating from the 15th century, and a replica of the Saxon Electoral post mile column to routes through the Baruth Glacial Valley. When planning your stay, it is worth considering cultural sites, routes and the wider Teltow-Fläming area as separate topics.

City history, park and cultural sites

St. Sebastian’s Church in Baruth/Mark was built in the 15th century. A replica of the Saxon Electoral post mile column from 1730 also stands in the town. Each offers a different historical perspective: the church on the one hand, and the post mile column on the other.

The palace park was laid out in the English style in 1838, based on plans by Peter Joseph Lenné. Baruth Old Palace is one of the town’s best-known sights and event venues. The park’s design and the palace therefore offer a different cultural perspective from the town’s history, which is presented at the Baruth Town Museum through exhibits on the history of crafts, administration and education.

Glashütte’s architectural heritage can also be described specifically: the village is a protected historic ensemble of workers’ houses and factory buildings. The Klasdorf heritage railway station regularly hosts music concerts. If you are planning to attend a concert, check the dates in advance, as the exact programme may change.

Routes through valleys, forests and history

The routes described differ in their landscape and cultural focus. The Baruth Glacial Valley Trail starts at Baruth/Mark station and runs through the wide-open landscape of the Baruth Glacial Valley. The Fläming–Glashütte Trail combines scenic woodland with the history of glassmaking around Glashütte in the Fläming region. The starting point and connection to the glacial valley help distinguish the first route, while woodland and glassmaking history are the defining features of the second.

JohannismĂĽhle Wildlife Park is about a 500-metre walk from Klasdorf/GlashĂĽtte stop. This is an approximate distance; check current transport details when planning your journey. This keeps route choice and travel arrangements in view as two separate planning considerations.

The town of Baruth/Mark includes parts of the Baruth Glacial Valley and the Lower Fläming. Its landscape connections therefore extend beyond the name of any one trail. At the same time, the Baruth Glacial Valley Trail specifically runs through the wide-open landscape of the glacial valley. Baruth Vineyard adds a connection to winegrowing: it was newly established in 2015 in the tradition of Brandenburg winegrowing.

Teltow-Fläming in a wider context

The wider Teltow-Fläming travel destination encompasses landscapes ranging from gently rolling ridges and broad valleys to protected areas, uplands and lowlands. Teltow-Fläming district has almost 600 kilometres of tourist cycling routes. These regional details provide a wider context; they should not be equated with the individual routes in Baruth/Mark.

The settlement of Baruther Glashütte is also a monument of European significance within the wider Teltow-Fläming travel destination. It has a living glass museum with an operating furnace; traditional workshops produce unique pieces and small series. Alongside the history of the protected historic ensemble, visitors can also gain a first-hand insight into the glass museum and craftsmanship.
