Crafts, regional painting, music and activities on the water give a stay in Schwielowsee a variety of possible focuses. Caputh, Geltow and Ferch each have their own themes—from early Baroque design and weaving techniques to the history of fishing and shipping.
Caputh and Geltow: Palace, summer house and looms
Caputh Palace and Park include a country palace with early Baroque ceiling designs in paintings and stuccowork. The summer house in Caputh also has a clear historical connection: Albert Einstein lived with his family in the house built by Konrad Wachsmann from 1929 to 1932.
At the Henni-Jaensch-Zeymer Active Museum of Hand Weaving in Geltow, historic weaving techniques are demonstrated on looms more than 200 years old. The themes are distinct: Caputh combines architectural history with Einstein’s years there, while Geltow puts traditional crafts at the center.
Ferch: Painting, fishing history and views
The Museum of the Havelland Artists’ Colony in Ferch is dedicated to the artistic landscape around Lake Schwielow and to researching and documenting it. The art trail in Ferch brings the work of regional painters to life and passes by motifs from well-known landscape paintings.
The fishing village is also home to the Kossätenhäuschen, which houses the Museum of the Havelland Artists’ Colony; the Fishermen’s Church and its churchyard; and the lakeside promenade on Lake Schwielow, with panoramic views. Built in the 17th century, the Fishermen’s Church is a half-timbered church and a testament to the local history of fishing and shipping. The observation tower on Wietkiekenberg offers views across the Havel Lakes landscape.
Water routes and boat trips
Lake Schwielow is part of the Potsdam and Brandenburg Havel Lakes water sports area. Leisure activities on the lake include houseboat and canoe trips, swimming, fishing and passenger boat cruises. The Caputh cable ferry, also known as Tussy II, connects Caputh and Geltow by water.
From March to October, Weisse Flotte offers round trips and excursions on the Havel Lakes. Stops are located in Caputh at the palace and at GemĂĽnde, in Ferch at Haus am See and at Bootsklause or Strandbad, and in Geltow at BaumgartenbrĂĽcke. Check the current timetable before planning your trip.
Music across different seasons
From May to December, the four musicians and writers of the Fercher ObstkistenBĂĽhne put on concert programs beneath a century-old, illuminated lime tree or beside a fieldstone fireplace. At events, guests can sing along and clap out the rhythm with traditional Markish wooden clogs on their hands. Check the current program before your visit.
In Caputh, the Caputher Musiken, established in 1995, hold around twelve concerts each year. Alongside the area’s places and historical themes, concert programs can therefore also be a focus when planning your trip.
