Explore Hennigsdorf through a range of different themes: exhibitions tell the story of the city, while the Havel lowlands, parks and cycle routes invite you outdoors. There are also specific rail connections for getting here. When planning your stay, consider whether culture, routes along the Havel or rail links will shape your visit.
City History and Culture
The Nieder Neuendorf Border Tower houses a permanent exhibition about the division of Berlin and its effects on Hennigsdorf. Another permanent exhibition is entitled “Village idyll – industrial town – place to live”. It presents the city’s history and shows how the permanent settlement of industry profoundly changed Hennigsdorf. Its themes range from village life in pre-industrial times to the dawn of modernity. The exhibitions thus focus on different aspects: one explores the division of Berlin, while the other examines the transformation of Hennigsdorf.
Throughout the year, the Stadtklubhaus and the “Alte Feuerwache” community centre host exhibitions, lectures, theatre and cabaret, classical concerts, modern music events, and festivals for all ages. A traditional Christmas market is also among the city’s events; if you plan to travel for it, check the dates in advance. Themed city tours and guided walks explore current topics and lead to places that were previously unknown. Check the relevant dates for these activities.
The city library offers a wide range of materials for reading, listening and playing, as well as other activities for children and families. These different cultural offerings complement the exhibitions and events. Be sure to check the current opening hours of the Border Tower separately.
The Havel Lowlands, Parks and Cycle Routes
The Havel lowlands offer a natural setting for walks. The city’s green spaces and parks are also suitable for walks and cycle rides. In Hennigsdorf, the Berlin–Copenhagen long-distance cycle route runs directly along the Havel. This gives you a choice between waterside routes and urban green spaces for spending time outdoors.
There is another, more specifically defined option for a circular ride: the approximately 20-kilometre route along the Havel Canal starts and ends at Hennigsdorf station. It passes through Schönwalde, by the Prussian post mile marker, and runs mostly on well-developed cycle paths. The station is both the starting point and the finish of this circular route. Its approximate length and circular course give you a different frame of reference from the Berlin–Copenhagen long-distance cycle route, which passes through Hennigsdorf.
If you are planning a hike or cycle ride, the city information centre provides downloadable materials. These include a hiking map for the Teufelsbruch circular trail. Check the latest materials before planning your trip; route conditions and signage may change.
Other Activities and Getting Here
At Hennigsdorf municipal swimming pool, you can swim, use the sauna and take part in aqua fitness. As services and operating procedures may change, check the latest information before your visit. Along with walks and cycle rides, this offers a choice of different activities without requiring them all to share the same focus.
Hennigsdorf is served by S-Bahn line S25, which runs from Teltow Stadt via Berlin to Hennigsdorf. Regional express RE 6 (Prignitz-Express) connects Berlin-Spandau, Hennigsdorf and Wittenberge. As rail connections and timetables may change, check your connection before departure.
