Hohen Neuendorf can be explored through several distinct themes: the water tower as a protected structure, public art, cycle routes and activities on the water. Planning also means taking specific conditions into account: the tower is not generally open to the public, concerts have their own schedules, and the Börnersee attracts visitors mainly in the warmer months.
Water Tower, City Walk and Art
The 40.75-metre-high water tower is a reinforced-concrete structure in the late Art Nouveau style and has been a listed building since 1994. It is generally closed to the public; visits are possible during cultural events. Before settling on a specific date, check whether a visit is planned as part of the event in question. This makes it possible to view the tower as part of the cultural programme without assuming that it is regularly open to visitors.
City Walk No. 1 runs through the town centre and includes 15 stops. If you plan to include it in your visit, check locally in advance whether it is currently available. The Sculpture Boulevard offers another perspective on art: this open-air gallery grew out of a cross-border exhibition project involving Hohen Neuendorf and Birkenwerder. It lies on the edge of the Briese floodplain between Birkenwerder Town Hall and the Hohen Neuendorf water tower. Individual artworks may change, so the boulevard is a cultural project whose specific selection of works is not fixed.
Concerts and Cultural Venues
The Stolper Abendmusiken take place in Stolpe village church. This recurring concert tradition features classical music, jazz, gospel and traditional music. If you would like to include a concert in your travel plans, check the dates separately. The town library is located in the Kulturbahnhof and complements the town’s cultural venues. Together, the concert series and the library’s location show different aspects of the local cultural offering: a recurring music event and a permanent town library.
Cycling, Horse Riding and Water
From Hohen Neuendorf, cyclists can follow an international cycle route towards Berlin or Copenhagen. The Havel Cycle Route is another option for anyone wishing to experience nature while cycling from Hohen Neuendorf; it runs parallel to the Oder-Havel Canal. These routes provide different reference points for planning a trip: the international route, heading towards Berlin or Copenhagen, and the Havel Cycle Route, with its connection to nature.
Horse rides are another possible activity in Stolpe. They lead into the Stolper Heide, towards Berlin, into Tegel Forest and to the Stolpe equestrian park. These destinations offer different directions and landscapes for outings on horseback. When choosing between cycling and riding, the main factors to consider are the activity you prefer and the destinations listed.
The Havelbaude Marina offers berths for visiting boaters. From there, you can also explore local waterways in an electric, traditional Tendersloep boat. Swimming is another way to spend time by the water: the Börnersee is in Borgsdorf and attracts swimmers in the warmer months. This seasonal focus sets swimming apart from the cultural and route-based activities, which are described as available year-round; the time of year is therefore especially relevant when planning a stay for swimming.
