Gut Zernikow: Regional Castles at a Scale of 1:25
At Gut Zernikow in Großwoltersdorf, castles and manor houses from the region have been faithfully recreated at a scale of 1:25. The miniatures can be viewed between the old sheepfold, which houses the “Bric à Brac” crêperie, and the Old Distillery. This brings several regional estates into focus, presented at the same scale.
The scale makes the proportions clear: 25 units on the original correspond to one unit on the model. Anyone interested in castles and manor houses can explore them here through faithful reproductions. Check the latest access information before travelling to plan your visit.
Oberhavel: Culture, Technology and Nature
The wider travel destination of Oberhavel offers further cultural and nature-related attractions. Oranienburg offers several different ways to explore cultural history. Oranienburg Palace is the oldest Baroque palace in the Margraviate of Brandenburg. The Palace Museum displays famous 17th-century works of art, as well as a unique silver chamber and a remarkable porcelain chamber. An exhibition room of the Oberhavel Regional Museum in the palace is devoted to the history of the palace, from the Ascanian castle built around 1200 to its present-day use.
The Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum in Oranienburg offers a different perspective: 13 small permanent exhibitions cover various aspects of the site’s history, while the memorial is also a modern museum of contemporary history. The memorial and museum are about a 20-minute walk from Oranienburg station. Check the latest access information before your trip.
In Mildenberg, the Brickworks Park combines industrial history with a natural setting: this industrial heritage site is located in the heart of the Zehdenick clay-pit landscape, directly on the Havel. As a seasonal activity, visitors can drive a locomotive themselves and earn a brickworks railway driving certificate. The ride lasts half an hour and takes place on a real diesel locomotive; participants learn how to set off, brake and operate points. Dates and booking conditions may change, so it is advisable to check before making plans.
There is also plenty to explore in nature. The Stechlin Nature Reserve was shaped by glacial formations from the Weichselian glaciation and is considered the area with the most bodies of water in the state of Brandenburg. The Stechlin Nature Park House has an interactive exhibition about the special features of Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park. Next to the house, a sensory garden with herbs, shrubs and other plants invites visitors to taste, smell, touch and listen. The approximately 6 km-long forest and water trail around Roofensee can complement a visit to the Nature Park House.
