Leisure Area and Getting There
At the entrance to Zechin, the leisure area offers 100 pitches for caravans and tents, an adjoining outdoor swimming pool and a snack bar. For visitors to the Oderbruch, it is a place to stop and stay overnight. Before travelling, check whether the pitches and facilities you would like to use are currently open.
At the leisure area, the OderlandKids e. V. association offers activities for children and young people; ask in advance for details and dates. The site also has a modern bowling facility. If you plan to take part in either of these activities, check the date or current operating arrangements.
The leisure area has a launch and landing point for canoeists. Active holidaymakers can reach Zechin by canoe along the course of the Alte Oder. You can plan both an overnight stay and leisure activities locally, as well as your arrival by canoe.
König’s Mill
In addition to preserved milling equipment, König’s Mill in Zechin features an exhibition on agriculture and crafts. The exhibition focuses on both the technology and its subject matter. Arrange visits with the operator. Include this coordination in your plans.
Local History of Zechin
In 2010, at the initiative of the König family, a motor mill was built in Zechin on a site where a post mill had previously stood, followed later by a gallery Dutch windmill. The sequence from post mill to gallery Dutch windmill to motor mill makes the history of this site tangible. In 1962, residents of Zechin built an outdoor swimming pool.
The Wider Destination of Märkisch-Oderland
The wider destination of Märkisch-Oderland offers other cultural and nature-related attractions. The Brecht-Weigel House in Buckow has been a museum since 1977. The literature museum hosts readings, concerts, discussions, debates, films, exhibitions and special guided tours throughout the year; the individual events vary. The Seelow Heights Memorial and Museum also features a multimedia exhibition on the events of the war, its consequences and the use of the memorial site; the exhibition is in German and English.
In Märkische Schweiz, you can explore the 17 km-long Natura Trail or the certified nature park route, which is just under 21 km long. Based on the stated distances, the nature park route is around four kilometres longer. Check route conditions locally.
The Oderbruchbahn Cycle Route is also part of the wider destination of Märkisch-Oderland. Its main route runs from Fürstenwalde/Spree or, alternatively, from Müncheberg to Wriezen. It passes through the tranquil Oderbruch landscape and is also a journey into the early 20th century and the history of rail transport.
All the ski jumps at the Sparkassen Ski Arena in Bad Freienwalde can be used in summer and winter. Special mats and weather-independent inrun tracks make ski jumping possible all year round. Check current access arrangements before visiting.
