The fieldstone village church, circular trails connecting to Rehfelde and Zinndorf, and the hiking trail to the Rotes Luch give Werder clear points of interest for a stay. Themes range from medieval architectural history and nature to baking in a wood-fired oven. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether churches and trails, the landscape, or a seasonal baking day should be the focus.
Village Church and Architectural History
Werder’s village church is a solid fieldstone building. Construction is thought to have begun as early as before 1234, by Cistercian monks. The west tower with its tented roof was added in the Late Middle Ages, around the middle of the 15th century. The church therefore brings together a presumed early start to construction and a significantly later addition. The Lilien circular trail also reflects this historical connection: it links Rehfelde, Werder and Zinndorf and their churches, which were built during the Cistercian period.
Circular Trails and Route Lengths
An 8 km variant of the Song Trail runs from Rehfelde via Werder and Zinndorf and back to Rehfelde. A 10 km route in the wider destination of Rehfelde also starts there and runs via Werder and Zinndorf, as well as through the Zinndorf open fields, before returning. The 10 km route also passes through the Zinndorf open fields.
In the wider destination of Rehfelde, the Song Trail is also described as a 15-kilometre network of paths. Along the network are granite boulders, black locust trunks and fieldstones bearing song plaques featuring 36 German and nine Polish folk songs.
Hiking Trail to the Rotes Luch
A hiking trail leads from Rehfelde station through the district of Werder to the Rotes Luch nature reserve. The area is quiet and has a high diversity of species. If you plan to take this trail, check the access conditions locally.

The nature and adventure circular trail in the wider destination of Rehfelde passes through Rehfelder Heide and by Zimmersee. The large information boards along Birkenweg on the nature trail offer another way to explore local nature. The Rehfelde local history museum presents the history of Rehfelde in a permanent exhibition and a small local archive. Exhibition topics include rural life, industry, crafts and trades, school, the Eastern Railway and the fire brigade. This gives a visit to the wider destination of Rehfelde a local-history focus alongside its churches and trails.
The Rehfelde tourism pavilion offers information about hikes on the municipality’s circular trails, in Märkische Schweiz and in the surrounding area. If you want to make use of this information, check the operating details in advance.
Baking Days at the Wood-Fired Oven
The wood-fired oven in Werder offers a different focus from church visits and hiking. During the 2026 season, baking days were held there regularly. Visitors could bake prepared goods such as bread, pizza or cake in the traditional wood-fired oven for a small fee. During the 2026 season, the baking days provided a culinary reason to stay in Werder.
