Two key themes for planning a trip to Seelow are the history of the Seelower Höhen Memorial Site and the Oderbruch Railway Cycle Route. There is also art and culture at the Alte Dampfbäckerei, as well as attractions along the cycle route. Seelow is part of the Märkisch-Oderland district. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether history, cultural activities or cycling should shape your stay.

Seelower Höhen Memorial Site: History and Landscape

The Seelower Höhen Memorial Site was inaugurated on 27 November 1945. On the grounds, Red Army soldiers and residents of Seelow created a burial site for Red Army soldiers who had fallen in battle. The memorial site also addresses the suffering of concentration camp prisoners, forced labourers and European civilians. Both the burial site and the suffering of other affected groups are therefore brought into focus.

The memorial grounds offer panoramic views across the Oderbruch towards Küstrin and Reitweiner Höhe. Alongside the historical perspective, views of the landscape are also a defining part of the site.

Culture at the Alte Dampfbäckerei

The Alte Dampfbäckerei offers a different cultural focus. The two-storey brick building was constructed in the mid-19th century as a factory and commercial building. Today, it is a sociocultural venue with exhibitions of painting and sculpture that change every three months. An open ceramics workshop offers the opportunity to create your own art. The historic building and its cultural use stand side by side; the exhibitions and workshop offer different ways to engage with art and design. As the programme may change, check which exhibitions or workshop activities are currently planned before your visit.

The Oderbruch Railway Cycle Route from Seelow

The Oderbruch Railway Cycle Route is 48 kilometres long and starts at Seelow railway station; it ends at Letschin railway station. The route follows the former railway line through the peaceful Oderbruch landscape from Seelow to Letschin. Its length and the two railway stations provide a clear framework for planning your stages. The former railway route and the landscape are also among the route’s defining features.

Seelow Church and Schweizerhaus Seelow are attractions along the cycle route. Schweizerhaus is currently open to visitors only on set dates; check the visiting dates before including it in your plans. The cycle route information lists the RB 60 for travelling to Seelow and departing from Letschin. Check current connections and route information before your trip.

Accommodation and Practical Planning

The Seelow Tourist Information Centre provides recommendations online and in person for inspected and certified accommodation, as well as rental options for leisure equipment.
