Prieros is situated on an island amid the lakes and forests of Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. The landscape is complemented by a rich village history: at the local history museum, the focus is on rural life, crafts and everyday culture. If you are considering staying overnight in Prieros, you can plan your visit around two areas of interest: historic buildings and collections, or cycling, hiking and water trails.

Village history among half-timbered houses and the church

Prieros Local History Museum is housed in a half-timbered building around 280 years old. Its permanent exhibition covers rural life and the history of Prieros, archaeological finds and the everyday culture of the region. It also explores historic working methods used by farmers, fishers, blacksmiths, millers and other tradespeople.

One of the museum’s special exhibits is an original black kitchen with a massive smoke hood. Other exhibits include historic kitchen and cooking utensils, everyday objects, clothing, farmhouse furniture, sewing machines and washing equipment. The collection also includes an iron treasure chest from the 17th century with 16 locking mechanisms and two original paintings by artist Max Lingner, who had a summer residence in Prieros.

Prieros Village Church is a Neo-Romanesque brick building dating from 1875 and is listed in the monument register of the State of Brandenburg as of 1 January 2026. Its furnishings include a retable dated to around 1675, which did not originally belong to the altar. The church thus brings together a 19th-century building and a much older furnishing.

The Old School is also part of the village’s history: it was built in 1890 as a sexton’s house and school. Tours of the local history museum can be arranged by phone outside opening hours and the season. Please call ahead to confirm the details before your visit.

Circular trails and nature watching

The “Prieros – From the Information Point to the Organic Garden” circular trail is two kilometres long. Another option is the “Prieros and Huschtesee” circular hiking trail, which leads to Huschtesee lake. The Prieros Heath circular trail runs partly along the shore of Tiefen See lake. The routes offer different highlights: a measured circuit, a named lake destination and a section along the lakeshore.

The long-distance Dahme Cycle Route also passes through Prieros. The school grounds are home to a nature trail with 20 information boards. It shares knowledge about native animal and plant species and invites visitors to explore independently. Prieros Organic Garden features plant communities and biotopes found in Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park.

The Nature Park Information Point in Prieros hosts changing exhibitions on nature, art and culture. Changing exhibitions on nature, art and culture are also shown there. Together with the trails, this gives visitors a choice between outdoor activities, nature-related topics and changing cultural content.

Water routes as another way to explore

Prieros can also be reached by water: the village is accessible by waterway from Berlin, Storkow, Teupitz or Märkisch Buchholz. Prieros Lock is located at kilometre 26.9 of the Dahme Waterway, providing a specific kilometre marker to help you navigate this waterway.

On the sixth stage of the “Märkische Umfahrt” route, you can continue from the finish point in Prieros into the Schmölde towards the Teupitz waters. This gives you different landmarks for planning on land and on the water: the cycle route passes through Prieros, the circular trails name their destinations, and the water route identifies a continuation towards the Teupitz waters.
