The Hartsee circular trail is just under six kilometres long and runs as a loop through the nature reserve. Larger and smaller lakes, along with the local flora and fauna, shape the route. It offers a single, clearly defined walk for discovering Eggstätt’s natural surroundings.

Lake District and Nature Insights

The Eggstätt-Hemhof lake district also extends into the municipality of Eggstätt. It includes a total of 28 kilometres of cycling and hiking trails, with tables and benches adding to the facilities. Unlike the individual loop, which is just under six kilometres long, this is a more extensive network of trails.

The Eggstätt-Hemhof lake district was formed as a dead-ice landscape when the Inn, Prien and Chiemsee glaciers retreated. Forty information panels in the Seeoner See nature reserve and the lake district provide insights into flora, fauna and renaturation measures.

More than 40 dragonfly species live in the Eggstätt-Hemhof lake district, including the critically endangered [Zierliche Moosjungfer]. Rare bird species such as the northern lapwing and protected plants such as the lesser butterfly-orchid can also be found around Eggstätt. Dragonflies, birds and plants offer different points of interest for nature watching.

Trails and Getting Around

Some walking paths around Hartsee and Langbürgner See are flat and well surfaced; they are also suitable for pushchairs and wheelchair users. If you need these features, be sure to choose one of these paths.

The cycling and hiking trails around Eggstätt start at the Hartsee leisure area. Several car parks in Eggstätt and Hemhof serve as starting points for walks and bike rides.

Local Culture and Activities at Hartsee

The 17-Seen minigolf course in Eggstätt combines a round of minigolf with stories about the Eggstätt-Hemhof lake district, told by pupils from Eggstätt primary school. The stories can be accessed via QR code. The activity combines a game with a storytelling perspective on the lake district.

St. George’s Parish Church adds an architectural highlight to the nature-themed attractions: the neo-Gothic church has a 72-metre-high tower spire.

There is a designated bathing area at Hartsee in Eggstätt; check current access arrangements before your visit. In summer, the Hartsee leisure area includes an outdoor swimming pool with a swimming island.
