A 35-tonne rocking stone lies at the summit of the viewing and tobogganing hill in Bischofsmais spa park. Alongside this striking feature, Bischofsmais offers a range of reasons to visit: winter runs on the Geißkopf, village traditions, culture at the Baderhaus and landscapes. If you are looking for a hotel in Bischofsmais, you can make your choice based on what you want to shape your stay: winter sports, a specific date or an interest in culture and landscapes. The season and occasion can help you narrow down your travel dates.

Winter on the Geißkopf

The Geißkopf, with Unterbreitenau, where the lift is located, lies between the main town of Bischofsmais and the district of Habischried. In winter, nine runs at the 1,097-metre-high Geißkopf and neighbouring 1,121-metre-high Einödriegel invite you to ski and snowboard. For your planned season, check with the ski operator to see whether the runs are open. Einödriegel is 24 metres higher than the Geißkopf.

Music and mountain biking at Rock The Hill

Rock The Hill is a three-day music and mountain biking festival. Various courses and a supporting programme take place during the day, while evenings are usually spent celebrating to rock and metal bands. If you want the festival to shape your stay, check the current programme in advance.

Culture at the Baderhaus

The Baderhaus brings together several cultural themes. Two rooms are dedicated to Bischofsmais local writer Max Peinkofer and his brother-in-law, Augsburg Bishop Dr Joseph Freundorfer. The ground floor houses a permanent nativity scene exhibition. Events featuring music, readings, and art and photography exhibitions are also held there. The topics therefore range from biographical connections and nativity scenes to a variety of event formats. If you are planning to attend a specific event, check the current flyer.

Landscapes and trails

On the Oberbreitenau plateau on the Geißkopf are the ruins of an abandoned village and a raised bog. The abandoned village points to the history of settlement, while the raised bog provides a contrasting landscape feature. The Devil’s Table can be reached via hiking trail No. 3. At various stations, the Bischofsmais reflection trail invites visitors to think about their own life journey. Local history, landscapes and a reflective trail thus cater to different interests.

Wolfauslassen and when to visit

Wolfauslassen remains part of village tradition in Bischofsmais. On the day before Martinmas (11 November), the wolf goes through the village, making a great deal of noise together with the Goaßlschnalzer whip-crackers. The timing of the activities varies considerably: the runs depend on winter operating conditions, Rock The Hill lasts three days, and Wolfauslassen takes place on the day before Martinmas. Events at the Baderhaus, in turn, have specific dates listed in the flyer.
