The castle tower, with its castle well and courtyard, is Kollnburg’s landmark. Various trails offer other highlights: they lead through the grounds of a prehistoric hillfort, explore nature-related topics or provide access to viewpoints. When planning your visit, you can therefore consider whether you would prefer to focus on the castle complex, a trail between different parts of the village, or nature and landscape themes.

Castle Ruins and the Burgstallweg Trail

The castle ruins are distinguished by an 11-metre-high round tower and a castle well around 20 metres deep. Visitors climb the castle tower for panoramic views of the highest peaks in the Bavarian Forest. The Burgstallweg trail offers a different historical connection: it is a section of the Baierweg, one of the oldest pack trails in the Bavarian Forest.

The Burgstallweg trail crosses Kollnburger Berg through the grounds of the prehistoric hillfort and connects the upper and lower parts of the village. It starts at Schulstraße 14. If you want to navigate precisely to this starting point, check the local trail signs. At the highest point of the trail is a group of rocks with an impressive wooden cross, known locally as the “Liebesfelsen” (Lovers’ Rock). From there, the view stretches across the forested landscape to the Arber.

Other Trails and Viewpoints

The Pröller Panorama Circular Trail starts and ends at the church square in Kollnburg. It follows the “Kollnburger Pröllersteig” nature trail. Information boards along the route cover flora and fauna, as well as forest and cultural landscapes. Kastenstein is another named viewpoint: the rock is around 822 metres high and offers views of Kollnburg and the surrounding Bavarian Forest mountains.

Different features are therefore the focus when choosing a trail: the Burgstallweg connects the upper and lower parts of the village, while the Pröller Panorama Circular Trail starts and ends at the church square. This allows you to compare a connecting trail with a circular route that begins and ends in the same place.

Nature, Art and Places for Reflection

The Laufkäferweg trail has 13 stations. Its focus is on exercise in the fresh air, learning about nature and experiencing nature with all the senses. The “Bemalter Wald” (“Painted Forest”) art project brings art and nature together along an approximately one-kilometre hiking trail that forms part of the Baierweg.

At marked spots, glass panels and glass spheres point the way to the “Words of Life”, an oasis for reflection and meditation. These stations add a theme distinct from the castle complex and viewpoints: here, the focus is on reflection and meditation.

Visiting the Motorcycle Collection

At Wurzelhaus, Sedlhofer StraĂźe 20, 94262 Kollnburg, the motorcycle collection can only be visited by prior arrangement. Check with the operator in advance to find out whether a visit is currently possible.
