In Redwitz a.d.Rodach, recurring markets meet trails through the Rodach biotope and opportunities for outdoor activities. When planning a stay, you can choose according to your interests: local life, river scenery, forest views or pilgrimage routes. The individual destinations have different local connections and can be included in your travel plans accordingly.

Markets, outdoor swimming pool and activities

Traditional markets are held several times a year in Redwitz, in the market square and at other locations in town. The former monthly market has been discontinued. If you are travelling specifically for a market, check the date in advance.

Redwitz outdoor swimming pool has a fully renovated 50-metre sports and swimming pool as well as a children's pool. As a seasonal amenity, it should be planned for the appropriate time of year. Since facilities may change, we recommend checking the current conditions before your visit.

Not far from the outdoor pool, you can try out tricks on skateboards, inline skates, BMX bikes and scooters along the Flurbereinigungsweg. The route runs from Gässla/Weiherdammstraße towards Unterlangenstadt. Check local conditions before setting out.

Circular trails, river scenery and distant views

The Redwitz Biotope Loop is a circular trail from the market square in Redwitz through the Rodach biotope and Unterlangenstadt, returning to the market square. On Redwitz territory, the Three Rivers Trail Rodach-Steinach-Main runs from the cycle path by the recycling centre through the Gries, over the Old Rodach Bridge and along the Rodach into the biotope. As a guide to choosing between them, the described sections differ mainly in their sequence of places: the Biotope Loop returns to the market square, while the Redwitz section of the Three Rivers Trail leads into the biotope. The varied river landscape around the biotope can be explored on foot or by bike.

Further along the Three Rivers Trail in the wider region, there are shortcuts, access points and places to stop for refreshments. These trail details may change, so check local information before setting out.

The circular trail of the nature trail in Mannsgereuth offers a different landscape experience. It leads through dark sections of forest and provides views of the Steinach Valley and the Thuringian Forest. Visibility depends on conditions along the route. Unlike the loop around the Rodach biotope, this trail focuses on forest sections and the views mentioned above.

The Ave Maria Route and the Magnificat Route also pass through Unterlangenstadt, a district of Redwitz. Together, the pilgrimage routes extend for around 1,100 kilometres across Upper and Middle Franconia and lead to 40 Marian sites. This means that, alongside the trails by the biotope, long-distance pilgrimage routes are another distinct option.

More to discover in the wider Lichtenfels destination

The wider Lichtenfels destination also offers its own cultural attractions. The Lichtenfels Basket Market takes place every year on the third weekend in September. The Bamberg Gate and Kronach Gate have been preserved in Lichtenfels Old Town, and parts of the old town wall are still visible. The Lichtenfels City Palace houses municipal collections on the history of beer and brewing, the railway and the basket trade. Since exhibition content may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Another option is the 14-kilometre Pfad der Flechtkultur (Basketry Culture Trail), an experience trail connecting Lichtenfels and Michelau along nature trails through the Main floodplains. Its 23 information panels cover the history and traditions of basket-making, the basket industry and the basket trade on the Upper Main. Along the trail, there is also a willow labyrinth for children near Oberwallenstadt, a willow shell at the river swimming area, a woven tipi at Ortswiesensee Oberwallenstadt, as well as other woven art installations. Thus, alongside Redwitz's trails and landscape, Lichtenfels offers a distinct focus on basket-weaving culture.
