Rafting brings together several distinct reasons to visit Wallenfels: the rafting trip on the Wild Rodach takes center stage, while two walking tours explore the history of rafting, local customs and the town’s culture. If you’d rather stay on land, you can choose between the Lamitz Trail and a mountain biking route; the Leutnitztal Kneipp Park adds the five elements of Kneipp therapy to the mix. For planning your day, it therefore helps to decide first whether the river, cultural interpretation or physical activity should be the focus.

Rafting on the Wild Rodach

The rafting trip on the Wild Rodach covers approximately 4 km from Schnappenhammer to the Wallenfels Rafting Museum and includes six spectacular runs through weirs. The route, destination and weirs give the river experience a clear framework; when planning, take the approximate distance into account as well as seasonal operation.

There is ample parking for cars at the Rafting Museum for rafting trips. A shuttle bus takes guests to the starting point at Schnappenhammer from 1:15 p.m. for €2.50 per person. Since operations are seasonal and program details and shuttle arrangements may vary, check the dates and information for the relevant season before your trip.

The history of rafting on two walking tours

The KulturEntdeckung is a 90-minute walking tour through Wallenfels, with 18 stops covering the history of rafting and the town’s culture. A route brochure is available at the information board. The tour thus combines a specified duration with two themes that have shaped Wallenfels.

The Flößerwegla Wallenfels comprises 28 stops featuring images, text, audio files and short video clips about rafting, local customs and the people of the town. In comparison with the KulturEntdeckung, this route has more stops and a range of media formats; the KulturEntdeckung, on the other hand, is specified as lasting 90 minutes. These differences offer practical guidance if you’re choosing between a tour with a set duration and a route that uses several forms of interpretation.

Hiking and mountain biking

The Lamitz Trail is a 5.8 km, moderately difficult circular route with information boards in the renaturalized Lamitz Valley. Its stated difficulty rating and distance help you work out how to fit the trail into your plans. As trail conditions can change, it’s worth checking the current state of the route before setting out.

For mountain biking, the Wallenfels-South route is another option: it is 29.6 km long, with 863 meters of elevation gain on the uphill sections, and has a starting point at the Rafting Museum in Wallenfels. The distance and elevation figures give you a sense of the cycling route; the Lamitz Trail, by contrast, is described as a circular route of moderate difficulty with information boards in a renaturalized valley. The two options therefore differ both in activity and in the route features described.

Kneipp themes in the Leutnitztal Valley

The Leutnitztal Kneipp Park adds another thematic focus: it combines health, wood and rafting with the five elements of Kneipp therapy. Alongside the historical walking tours and route options, it offers a distinct way to explore themes that also recur in Wallenfels’ rafting tradition.
