The Main Cycle Route passes through Hallstadt. The Seven Rivers Hiking Trail also runs through the town and Dörfleins, while the Upper Main Canoe Trail runs from Hausen to Hallstadt. These different routes make it easy to choose the focus of your stay: cycling, hiking or a trip on the water.

Trails and pilgrimage route

The Seven Rivers Hiking Trail runs along both sides of the Main through Hallstadt and Dörfleins. Another circular trail is the Hallstadt Nature Experience Trail, which starts at the hiking car park in Dörfleins. Those interested in pilgrimage routes can find Hallstadt on one of the seven stages of the Way of St James from Rosenberg Fortress in Kronach to Nuremberg. The trail descriptions cover different route types: a local circular trail, a hiking trail through Hallstadt and Dörfleins, and a stage on a longer pilgrimage route.

There is also a special connection with the church for cyclists: St John’s Church in Hallstadt is a cycling-friendly church, open especially to cyclists and a place to rest and pause for quiet reflection during a bike ride. No specific opening hours are provided, so check the conditions on site if you plan to visit.

Churches, art and Kulturboden

Different architectural styles and periods stand side by side in Hallstadt. St Anne’s Chapel was built from sandstone in the Baroque style in 1703. St Kilian’s is a late Gothic, three-aisled hall church. Its church treasury includes a silver censer dating from 1747. The Hagelmarter in Dörfleins offers a different focal point: it is considered the village’s landmark and the largest and most significant wayside shrine in the Bamberg area. It is over 5.50 metres high and over 1 metre wide.

At Kreuzberg in Dörfleins, the shrine houses a Crucifixion group dating from the mid-19th century. The wayside shrines depicting the Stations of the Cross were installed in 1890. Art can also be discovered in everyday city life: the art library is located in St Kilian’s public library. Some of the artworks can also be seen at the town hall and viewed, borrowed or purchased there during regular opening hours. Kulturboden Hallstadt offers concerts, cabaret and variety performances.

Festivals, markets and outdoor pool

Four Hallstadt church fairs take place during the summer months; their exact dates vary. Markets are held around the marketplace three times a year, also on varying dates. The annual Weiherfest takes place in the Dörfleins district on the first weekend in July. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival or market, check the dates for your intended travel period.

Hallstadt outdoor pool has four heated pools, its own playground and a beach volleyball court. It is another seasonal leisure option; seasonal opening may vary. Check the current opening times before visiting.

Getting there by bus and train
