Wackersberg has the character of a foothills village, with magnificent farmsteads, many cows and numerous wayside crosses. Farmhouses and chapels provide tangible historical landmarks; at the same time, Wackersberg is part of a regional network of trails. This means you can plan your stay around both the village’s history and individual attractions in the wider destination of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.

Farmhouses and Village History

Old farmhouses dating from the early 19th century stand mainly along Dorfstraße and Kirchstraße. These two streets are therefore important landmarks reflecting the village’s historic character. At the northern edge of Wackersberg stands the Chapel of the Resurrection, built in 1706 and extended in 1712. St. Nicholas Parish Church received a new high altar in 1759; the rectory dates from 1904. Together, these dates span the early 18th to the 20th century and show how different periods of construction can be traced in the village landscape.

At the foot of the church, a memorial commemorates those who fell in the two world wars. The surrounding area also has notable places: near Wackersberg is the secluded Plague Chapel, with a burial mound. A large badger den lies in the forest between Bad Tölz and Wackersberg. These places add further historical and natural features to the area’s architectural history.

Wackersberg in the Regional Trail Network

As a tourism brand, Tölzer Land represents all 21 towns and municipalities in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen. Within this wider destination, the Tölzer Land Health Climate Park brings together 37 routes across a trail network of more than 340 kilometres between Bad Heilbrunn, Bad Tölz, Kochel am See, Wackersberg and Lenggries. This provides a regional framework for planning outings, not a single local route. The district’s hiking options also include six signposted Nordic walking routes ranging from 2 to 8.6 kilometres. This range helps you choose a route of the desired length; check the current routes and the conditions on each trail before setting out on a specific outing.

More Trails in the Destination of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

There are also trails outside Wackersberg with clearly distinct profiles. The Benediktusweg near Benediktbeuern Abbey is an easy, 2.31-kilometre themed trail: it runs from the information stele at the abbey car park to Stele 12 in front of St. Benedict’s Basilica. In Wolfratshausen, the easy Loisachweg runs for 3.34 kilometres along the Loisach; the stated walking time is 49 minutes. Along the way, it passes traces of the rafting trade, the Kastenmühl weir and the rafting landing. Its length, walking time and thematic focus offer a practical basis for comparison if you’d like to include other destinations in the district alongside the local history in your plans.

When choosing where to stay, two different scales are therefore available: Wackersberg itself offers historic buildings and distinctive local landmarks, while the wider destination of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen adds a regional network and separate trails in other towns. Taking both into account when planning allows you to make village history and regional outings separate priorities, rather than combining them into a single route.
