Mömbris combines pilgrimages with a range of ways to get active and historic local landmarks. This means there are different ways to plan your stay: an event around Pentecost, a route of your preferred length, or a look at the history of individual places. The landscape is also shaped by the contrast between the Kahl and the Hahnenkamm.

Landscape between the Kahl and the Hahnenkamm

Along the Kahl, the flat terrain gives way to partly steep climbs up to the Hahnenkamm. The valley and the climb are in clear contrast. If you are interested in landscape and outdoor activities during your stay in Mömbris, this variation offers a clear point of reference: the terrain is not only flat, but it is also not defined exclusively by slopes.

Pilgrimages linked to Pentecost

The pilgrimage from the Catholic parish of St. Cyriakus and Valentinus travels from Mömbris to Walldürn and back. It takes place every year over the weekend after Pentecost and covers four stages, from Friday through Monday inclusive. You can also take part on individual days. The connection to Pentecost is important when planning, since the specific calendar dates change from year to year.

There is also a bicycle pilgrimage from Mömbris to Walldürn, which has taken place on the Sunday after Pentecost since 2004. There are repeated breaks along the way, with spiritual reflections. Both events travel to Walldürn and are timed around Pentecost, but their schedules differ: the pilgrimage lasts four days and allows participation on individual days, while the bicycle pilgrimage takes place on Sunday. If you are planning to attend either event, check the date for the relevant year.

Loop routes and running trails by distance

There are three loop routes around Mömbris for runners, Nordic walkers and strollers. The signposted running trails offer distances ranging from 2.75 to 10 km. The 10 km Panorama Loop can be shortened using three differently marked routes. The distance range helps you choose a running trail; the three shortcuts apply specifically to the Panorama Loop.

Mill, castle site and rest area

The historic double mill on the Kahl in Strötzbach is a popular photo spot. Only the castle site remains of Mömbris Castle; its clearly visible plateau lies east of the old cemetery in Mömbris. The two landmarks show different traces of history: one is a mill that serves as a photo spot, while the other is the castle site and its surviving plateau.

The Remembrance Site is also located in the district of Schimborn. It can be reached on foot or by bike from two directions and has a sturdy bench and a seating area where you can rest and spend some time. The site is therefore a destination in its own right for a break, while the mill and castle site offer different reasons to visit.
