Bad Dürrheim holds the designations “saltwater spa” and “spa resort with a therapeutic climate”; at the same time, the Biodiversity Trail leads through the Baar’s meadows, fields and forests. This makes it possible to distinguish between spa offerings and nature trails when planning your trip. Local trails range from around five to about 33 kilometres.

Solemar, Sauna and Lake

Solemar in Bad Dürrheim offers a variety of water attractions. The Black Forest Sauna has six themed saunas. The distinction is clear for planning: first decide whether water attractions or sauna facilities better suit your interests.

Salinensee is a picturesque lake with a water fountain. As another scenic feature, it complements the options alongside the water and sauna offerings.

Circular Trails by Distance and Use

The “Discover the Diversity of the Baar” Biodiversity Trail is around 5 km long and forms a circular route through the Baar’s varied landscapes. Starting at the spa gardens, it passes through meadows, fields and forests in Bad Dürrheim. Its circular layout and approximate length give you a clear framework for adding a nature outing to your stay.

The Stifterweg is on a considerably larger scale: it is about 33 km long, marked throughout with the Bürgerstiftung logo, and has connected all six districts and the town centre of Bad Dürrheim since 2012. It is not too difficult to walk, but is only suitable for cycling to a limited extent. The two local routes therefore differ in both length and layout: a circular trail or a route connecting the districts. The Stifterweg’s limited suitability as a cycling route should also be taken into account.

More Destinations in the Schwarzwald-Baar District

Kirnbergsee is located in Bräunlingen-Unterbränd, in the Schwarzwald-Baar district. A 2.5 km circular trail goes around the oval lake and over the dam. Compared with the Biodiversity Trail in Bad Dürrheim, this loop is shorter than the approximately 5 km trail there. The different distances help you compare regional hiking options by the length you want to cover.

The cross-border premium hiking trail WasserWeltenSteig covers a greater distance. It is 109 kilometres long and runs entirely through the Schwarzwald-Baar district on the German side. Its endpoints are Germany’s highest waterfalls in Triberg and the Rhine Falls near Neuhausen. This means that, alongside local circular trails, the region also offers a long route connecting two named destinations.

The Move fare applies to all local buses and trains in the districts of Schwarzwald-Baar, Tuttlingen and Rottweil. Check the current fare conditions before travelling.

Fasnet is also a regional cultural tradition: in December 2014, Swabian-Alemannic Fasnet in the Schwarzwald-Baar district was added to Germany’s nationwide UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The carnival period lasts six days, from Schmotziger Dunnschtig to Ash Wednesday. Alongside nature and spa themes, culture and its own timeframe are therefore also part of planning a trip in the district.
