The Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route passes through Gaildorf’s town centre by the Old Castle; the Stromberg-Murr Cycle Route also runs through Gaildorf. There are also visible remnants of the town walls, a cultural trail, and a cycling tour that starts and ends in town. These different options make it easier to plan a stay around your interests: local history, views, or cycling.

Cycling: through Gaildorf or starting and ending in town

The Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route passes through the town centre by the Old Castle. The Stromberg-Murr Cycle Route also runs through Gaildorf. Another option is the cycling tour along the Idyllische Straße: it starts and ends in Gaildorf and follows the Rottal Valley before climbing to the plateau near Gschwend. When planning your day, you can choose whether to include a cycle route that passes through town or take a tour that starts and finishes in Gaildorf. The continuation through the Rottal Valley to the plateau gives the Idyllische Straße its own distinctive route.

Town walls, Törle Gate, and the Kocher Bridge

Several remains of Gaildorf’s former town walls can be seen along Mauerstraße. At the western end of Kirchstraße, Brandenburger Törle marks an old opening in the medieval town wall leading to Mauerstraße. A wooden bridge now crosses the Kocher from there, connecting the town centre with the river meadows opposite. Together, these places show different aspects of the townscape: traces of the former fortifications, an old opening in the wall, and a present-day crossing over the river.

Cultural trail and tours at the Old Castle

The Gaildorf Cultural Trail follows Schloss-Straße past the Old Castle and the town church, crosses the Kocher Bridge, and returns to its starting point at the Hallengelände. Check the trail conditions before setting out. If you would like a guided tour of the Old Castle with the Gaildorf night watchman, you can book one through the Gaildorf Tourist Information Office. Check current availability with them in advance.

Views from Kernerturm

From Kernerturm, there are unobstructed views over the ski slope down to Gaildorf, into the Kocher Valley, and towards the Limpurger Mountains rising to the northeast. Seasonal tree growth may partly obstruct the view. Kernerturm is open on Sundays and public holidays from Easter to the end of October; check these opening details before your visit. When planning, take into account both the season and the possible effects of tree growth on the view.
