The 12.6-kilometre Rosengarten Trail connects Uttenhofen, Rieden, Westheim and Wilhelmsgrück; it is rated easy. In addition, three shorter trails starting at the Kelterbuckel car park offer varying levels of difficulty. The entire municipality of Rosengarten is part of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park. This lets you plan your stay around a specific hiking route or the districts and buildings that interest you.

Hiking Trails by Length and Difficulty

The Sanzenbacher Trail starts at the Kelterbuckel car park and is 5.9 kilometres long and rated easy. The 5.4-kilometre Hammerhalden Trail is rated moderate, while the 8-kilometre Landturm Trail is challenging. Of these three options, the Hammerhalden Trail is the shortest; the Landturm Trail is the longest and is also rated challenging. The Sanzenbacher Trail falls between them in length and is rated easy. This comparison makes it easier to narrow down your options if length and difficulty determine your choice.

The Rosengarten Trail can be walked in either direction with a pushchair; the Sanzenbacher Trail is also suitable. If you plan to walk the Rosengarten Trail with a pushchair, check the current conditions before setting out, as the trail surface and accessibility may change. The choice is not based on length alone: the Rosengarten Trail connects four districts, while the three shorter trails start at the Kelterbuckel car park.

The Way of St James through Rosengarten

The Way of St James runs through the municipality of Rosengarten and is signposted with metal plaques: from Tullau, the route passes through Uttenhofen and Rieden, then continues over the Kelterbuckel and the Lichte Platte above Sanzenbach towards Oberrot. The route’s sequence of places sets the pilgrimage trail apart from the hiking trails described by length and difficulty: here, the towns and trail markers provide orientation. As the markers may change, check the current route before setting out.

Church, Cultural Monument and Landturm Tower

The Protestant Marienkirche is a prominent landmark in Rieden. In Uttenhofen, the Kochersteg Wilhelmsgrück is one of the municipality of Rosengarten’s public cultural monuments; it was restored in 2010. The seven-metre-high steel Landturm tower stands on the Kelterbuckel between Rieden and Sanzenbach. It was officially opened for its intended use in April 2015.

Rosengarten and the wider destination of Schwäbisch Hall

The wider destination of Schwäbisch Hall also offers a distinct urban and historical focus. The historic old town of Schwäbisch Hall combines medieval lanes that have remained virtually unchanged with a partly preserved town wall, numerous towers, covered wooden bridges, many steps and Stäffele (steep stairways), as well as a historic market square. The Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum is housed in seven historic buildings in Schwäbisch Hall. A Romanesque wheel chandelier is located in the collegiate church of St. Nicholas at Großcomburg Monastery.

Schwäbisch Hall also has its own options for cycling and walking: the Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route runs directly through the city, and three day trips by bicycle start and end in the city centre. A walking trail through the Ackeranlagen gardens leads from the city centre to Großcomburg Monastery in 30 minutes.
