Leutkirch im Allgäu lies in a hilly Alpine foothills landscape among forests and ponds. Circular trails, the town pond as a swimming lake, and the history of glassmaking each offer something different. If you’re looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether nature, water or culture should be the focus of your stay.

Landscape and Circular Trails

At 886 metres, Kapf is the highest point in Leutkirch. Those who want to explore the landscape on foot will find a range of route descriptions: Circular Trail 1 passes Repsweiher pond and then continues into the Lower Town Forest. At Siebenbrünnen, hikers can take a break and refresh themselves with cool spring water; water availability may vary. Circular Trail 1 also follows the railway line to Leutkirch and crosses the Eschach.

Circular Trail 2 leads from the old town towards the forest chapel and reaches Weiherweg on the outskirts of Leutkirch. On the way back to Leutkirch, it passes Repsweiher pond. A detour takes hikers to Balterazhofer Höhe, which offers views of the Alpine panorama. Circular Trail 1 is a good option for a route through the Lower Town Forest with spring water; views of the Alpine panorama can be added to Circular Trail 2 with the detour.

The History of Glassmaking in Schmidsfelden

The Glasius Trail runs for just over four kilometres along the Eschach through the Adelegg; its starting point is in Schmidsfelden. Along the trail, 16 interactive learning and play stations invite children and adults to discover the history of glassmaking in the Adelegg. The trail combines exercise with a subject that is also explored in the museum in Schmidsfelden.

A museum in the former glassmaking village of Schmidsfelden presents the area’s glassmaking history. The Glass Museum tells the story of the “glass barons” and ordinary workers. In the historic glassmaking village, glassmaker Stefan Michaelis gives glassblowing demonstrations. Check the current schedule before visiting.

Swimming Lake, Adventure Trail and Music

The town pond in Leutkirch is an 18-hectare swimming lake. If swimming is part of your stay, bear in mind that swimming conditions may vary. Another way to spend time outdoors is the family-friendly adventure trail, where three activity stations invite visitors to play, picnic and enjoy the views.

The “Panoramic View of Gallus Chapel” station features a viewing frame overlooking Gallus Chapel, bicycle parking, a slackline, a lounging bench and a relaxation lounger. The station’s facilities may change. For a musical interlude, a weekly band concert is held in Leutkirch’s market square. Check the current schedule before planning your visit around it.
