Kißlegg’s New Castle lies in the heart of the town, surrounded by an English-style castle park. Baroque architecture, seasonal activities at Obersee and trails through nearby moors offer different ways to enjoy your stay.
Castle, Church and Exhibitions
The New Castle was built between 1721 and 1727 to a design by Füssen master builder Johann Georg Fischer. Today, it is a place for art and culture, with regular exhibitions of contemporary art and a local history museum. The programme of individual exhibitions may change.
The cultural calendar includes the Christmas market, held every year in and around the castle on the first weekend of Advent; the exact dates may vary from year to year. In the centre of Kißlegg stands the magnificent Baroque Church of St. Gallus and Ulrich, home to the Augsburg Silver Treasure. At the edge of Lake Zellersee stands the Old Castle, a Renaissance and Baroque building.
Obersee and St. Anna Leisure Area
The lido at Kißlegg’s Obersee offers pedal boats, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for short outings. Rentals are seasonal; check before your trip whether the activities you want are available. The lido also has changing rooms, showers and toilets, and the kiosk is open daily. Facilities may change seasonally, so we recommend checking the latest information before your visit.
From April to October, the St. Anna family leisure area offers a large space with play equipment, an open playing field with goals and a water play area. Benches and tables are available for picnics. A barbecue hut with a barbecue area can be rented from the Tourist and Citizen Information Office. Facilities, seasonal opening and rental arrangements may change; it is best to check the terms before making plans.
Moor Trails and Nature Tours
In Burgermoos, close to Kißlegg, a 3.9 km circular trail leads across the moor on wooden boardwalks. The nature trail features hands-on stations and activity areas. A natural history tour of Burgermoos can be booked through the Tourist and Citizen Information Office; check the booking arrangements before your trip.
A few kilometres south of Kißlegg lies Arrisrieder Moos, with its own nature trail. With suitable footwear, the area can be explored at any time of year; it is particularly appealing during the heather bloom in August. The moor trails offer different points of reference for planning: in Burgermoos, the 3.9 km circular trail takes centre stage, while at Arrisrieder Moos, the seasonal heather bloom provides a special landmark.
Tours Through Kißlegg
The app-based LAUSCHTOUR is GPS-guided and takes you through Kißlegg. It is an audio-guided discovery tour of a Baroque gem at the western end of the main route of the Upper Swabian Baroque Route, starting on the north side of the New Castle. As app features and route programmes may change, we recommend checking the latest information.
Group tours in Kißlegg can be booked at any time through the Tourist and Citizen Information Office, regardless of the season or opening hours. A natural history tour of nearby Burgermoos can also be requested there. As booking arrangements may change, confirm the details before your trip. For planning your schedule, the Advent market, the St. Anna leisure area’s season from April to October, and the heather bloom in August also offer different points of reference.
