Waldstetten is best explored along its trails and at its viewpoints: numerous circular hiking routes and walks lead to sights and scenic vantage points. Hiking car parks and well-signposted paths help you plan your tours. Cultural attractions and regional products also add their own special touches to your stay.
Hiking trails for different levels
In 2021, the Waldstetten branch of the Swabian Alb Association marked six hiking trails. They vary in length, duration and difficulty. This information can help you choose a route to suit the time you have and the level of challenge you want. The “Top of Ostalb” hiking trail passes a wildflower meadow, from which you can enjoy views of the Christental and Lautertal valleys. The “Dreikaiserberge Viewpoint” offers a view of all three Kaiser Mountains.
The access route to the Drei-Kaiserberge circular tour can also help you get your bearings: near Metlangen in Waldstetten, a cycle path along a former railway line leads from StraĂźdorf to the tour. This describes the access route, not the starting point or mode of transport for the circular tour itself.
The Glaubenswege (Paths of Faith) offer a separate theme for hikes connected with churches and chapels. Waldstetten lies along four stages of the main Glaubenswege circuit; eight Glaubenswege circular walks cross the municipality. The Glaubenswege guide describes the hiking trails and the churches and chapels along the routes. Check the route information before setting out.
Chapel and local history museum
Built in 1714, the Reiterles Chapel is designated as a landmark of Waldstetten. The local history museum, by contrast, focuses on the town’s history and everyday life. Its subjects range from geology, archaeology and fossils to archaeological finds and local history, as well as the world wars, the post-war period, expulsion and popular piety.
The museum has a particular focus on the local crafts of bone turning, bead knitting and pipe making. Demonstrations include traditional bone turning, knitting beaded purses and making pipes from burr wood. Guided tours, special and themed exhibitions, talks, activities and a holiday programme complement the offerings. Refreshments are available in the museum room; individual programme items may vary.
More activities and regional products
There is a high ropes course in a natural setting at Schwarzhornhaus. Check before your trip whether the facility will be available during your visit. This lets you include it in your plans alongside hiking and cultural activities, without assuming a particular route or fixed itinerary.
Waldstetten’s culinary offerings include two distilleries, a full-time beekeeper, a flour shop and a farm shop. These offer a range of local products and shopping options alongside the area’s natural and cultural attractions. Businesses and availability may change; if you are planning a visit, check current offerings in advance.
Waldstetten offers several ways to plan your activities: compare hiking trails by length, duration and difficulty; focus on viewpoints and landscapes; or set aside time for the chapel and local history museum. Information about the Glaubenswege also helps you explore their routes and religious sites.
