A four-leaf-clover-shaped village fountain, medieval church art and wildlife watching at the pond represent different sides of Aglasterhausen. Cultural attractions include historic landmarks in the market square and in Daudenzell, as well as library events; hiking, rest stops and waterside activities offer further options. When deciding on a stay, you can weigh up whether local history, community culture or time in nature should be the deciding factor.

Local History in the Market Square

The village fountain in the market square was crafted from coloured sandstone by master stonemason Jakob from Gundelfingen in 1985. Its four rounded sections are each 2.20 metres long and evoke a four-leaf clover; each segment is dedicated to one of Aglasterhausen’s districts. The four-part design reflects this dedication in its form. Another historical landmark is the Karl Theodor Monument, erected by the Stüber Zent in 1782. With their different dates of creation, the two works offer a chronological comparison for understanding local history.

Church and Murals in Daudenzell

The Protestant church in Daudenzell has a medieval bell tower and a Baroque nave. During renovation work in the 1960s, secco paintings dating from the third quarter of the 14th century were discovered in the tower. They depict scenes from the life of Christ, from the Nativity to the Resurrection. Different periods therefore coexist in one building: the tower preserves medieval evidence, while the nave is Baroque.

Library and Cultural Events

The St. Matthäus Aglasterhausen Library is located at Ostlandstraße 27 beneath the Catholic church. The volunteer library team promotes reading and hosts cultural events, including literary hikes, cinema evenings and author readings. The cultural offering thus extends beyond buildings to include events for people to enjoy together. If you would like to plan a visit around an event, check the library’s latest announcements.

Hiking and Nature at MĂĽllerle Pond

The Rothenburg ob der Tauber–Speyer Way of St. James passes through Aglasterhausen. Müllerle Pond is a suitable rest stop while hiking. The ponds are located between the districts of Aglasterhausen and Breitenbronn, where visitors can observe wildlife such as kingfishers, geese and dragonflies. Taking a break and watching wildlife are different reasons to stop by the water: the pond offers a place to rest, while also providing an opportunity to observe local wildlife. Sightings may vary, so do not plan on seeing any particular animal.

Michelsee and Indoor Swimming Pool

Aglasterhausen has operated the Michelsee recreation and leisure facility since 1979. The facility includes a hut, a Kneipp pool and various places to rest. It also contains a memorial to a British bomber crew whose aircraft crashed in Michelbach during the Second World War. Recreation facilities and a place of remembrance thus share the same site. Aglasterhausen also has an indoor swimming pool for families and leisure visitors. Check the pool’s current opening hours before visiting.

Culinary Experiences in the Neckar-Odenwald District

Regional food is also part of a trip to the wider Neckar-Odenwald District. The annual “Brunch on the Farm” features local products such as smoked trout, savoury cheese and homemade bread. At farmers’ markets and direct-sales days, visitors can meet producers, ask questions and sample regional food. Before travelling, check the brunch dates, participating farms, and the locations and times of the markets.
