Cycling and art can be explored in Schwieberdingen from different perspectives: the GlemsmĂĽhlenweg focuses on stages and mills, while the ART LOOP is a circular route featuring works of art. There is also local history, golf and other destinations in the wider Ludwigsburg destination.

Cycling Routes: Mills, Art and Different Tour Formats

Numerous well-preserved and notable mills line the GlemsmĂĽhlenweg. The route is fully signposted and can be explored in several stages, starting from different points. Parking facilities and train stations are marked on the map. If you plan your journey around them, check the map before setting out: access information may change when the route map is revised.

The ART LOOP offers a different format: this 35-kilometre circular route combines exercise, art and the landscapes of the Strohgäu and Heckengäu regions. Seven works of art line the route. The two tours therefore differ mainly in their layout: the Glemsmühlenweg focuses on stages and different starting points, while the ART LOOP is a set circular route with art along the way. The Keltenweg, in turn, connects places southwest of Ludwigsburg that share a rich Celtic heritage.

Local History and Golf

The local history museum Im Alten Pfarrhaus offers a glimpse into the working and living conditions of Schwieberdingen’s ancestors. The museum cellar recalls the brewing tradition of the Lamm-Brauerei Essig. Alongside the routes, local history and its connections to everyday life are therefore also themes in their own right for your stay.

The Schloss Nippenburg golf course features an 18-hole championship course designed by Bernhard Langer, as well as dining options. Dining options may change; check in advance if you are planning to stop for a meal. Nippenburg is a visitor attraction in the district of Ludwigsburg and a local recreation destination.

In the Wider Ludwigsburg Destination

Those who look beyond Schwieberdingen will find more landscape and cultural themes in the Ludwigsburg destination. Terraced steep vineyards along the Neckar and Enz shape the district’s landscape. Ludwigsburg Residential Palace is one of Europe’s largest Baroque buildings preserved in its original form.

The WeinErlebnisWeg Wunnenstein also adds to the regional selection: this approximately four-kilometre walking route passes 60 illustrated information boards about viticulture and winemaking. Viewpoints, restaurants, seating areas, barbecue sites and WengertschĂĽtzen huts are located along the route. This is a different kind of excursion from the longer cycling routes: here, the focus is on learning about viticulture and following a trail with stops along the way.

For planning, it helps to keep the different distances in mind: the GlemsmĂĽhlenweg can be explored in stages, the ART LOOP is a 35-kilometre circular route, and the WeinErlebnisWeg is a walking route of approximately four kilometres. These details describe different options, not a single combined route.
