Ried combines a cultural centre serving the entire municipality with a distinctive route through meadows and a stream landscape. This offers two different options when planning a trip: changing cultural events and exhibitions, or the Ried Bächle Circular Trail with its valley views. The wider destination of Lörrach offers further cultural and landscape experiences.

Culture in Ried

The Kleines Wiesental Cultural Centre in Ried is intended as a cultural hub for the entire municipality. The ongoing programme at Kulturhuus Ried includes literary events, musical performances and exhibitions by regional artists. Individual events and exhibitions change; if a particular date is central to your visit, check the relevant programme in advance. Cultural centre projects also include author readings, exhibitions and cultural trails. Author readings give the literary focus a concrete form, while cultural trails are another project format alongside events and exhibitions. The most important consideration for planning is that the programme changes: check whether a particular event falls within your travel dates.

Meadows, a stream and valley views along the circular trail

The Ried Bächle Circular Trail offers a contrasting landscape experience. It crosses green meadows and then continues as a farm track; it also follows a wonderfully wild path beside a babbling stream. From the route, you can look across the valley towards the houses of Ried and Raich. Meadows, the stream and views of the settlements are all part of one trail, rather than separate suggestions for multiple excursions. The circular trail passes the Restaurant zum Adler before returning to its starting point at Ried Town Hall. If stopping for a meal is part of your plans, check the current opening hours in advance.

Lörrach: culture and wine trails in the wider destination

The wider destination of Lörrach lies in southwestern Baden-Württemberg, in the Markgräflerland, directly on the Swiss border and close to the neighbouring city of Basel. The Three Countries Museum in Lörrach has a permanent exhibition covering around 1,000 square metres. The Lörrach Sculpture Trail runs through the city and features 23 sculptures, fountains and monuments created by renowned sculptors.

The market and stage each have their own appeal: the Lörrach weekly market has been running since 1403. Burghof Lörrach GmbH organises the international STIMMEN Festival every year. The Burghof’s cultural programme includes singing and music, dance, cabaret, literature and children’s theatre. The offerings also differ in timing: the market has been running since 1403, while the festival is held annually; the Burghof programme spans several cultural disciplines.

A distinct landscape experience in the wider destination can be found in Lörrach-Tüllingen. From there, the Tüllinger Wine Trail connects the Riehen Wine Trail with the Weiler Wine Trail. The connected wine trails on Tüllinger Berg pass through around 90 hectares of vineyards, including the “Riehener Schlipfer”, “Tüllinger Sonnenbrunnen”, “Weiler Schlipf”, “Haltinger Stiege” and “Ötlinger Sonnhole” wine-growing areas. The Tüllinger Wine Trail offers views of the Wiesental and Rhine valleys and gives visitors insight into the work of winegrowers throughout the year. The landscape experiences are therefore distinct: the Ried circular trail combines meadows, a stream and views of Ried and Raich; at Tüllinger, the focus is on vineyards, wine-growing areas and the work of viticulture.
