In June, iris blossoms turn the meadows of the Eriskircher Ried blue. This seasonal feature shapes Eriskirch’s natural character; other highlights include a distinctive parish church, art just before the Schussen estuary, and opportunities for cycling and swimming.

Nature in the Eriskircher Ried

The Eriskircher Ried includes wet meadows, the Schussen with its oxbow lakes, alluvial forests and the shallow-water zone of Lake Constance. These different habitats provide a home for many animals and plants. In June, the iris blossoms draw particular attention to the meadows; the other areas mentioned show the diversity of the Ried’s landscape.

The Eriskirch Nature Conservation Centre offers nature tours, talks and special activities for children throughout the year. Which specific events fall within your travel dates may vary.

Local Sights, Cycling and Swimming

The parish church of “Mariä Himmelfahrt” is a landmark of Eriskirch. Its pointed tower is 61 metres high. Just before the Schussen estuary stand six Water Guardians arranged in a parabolic pattern. Their names refer to virtues, intellect and love. The sights differ distinctly: the church tower makes an impression through its height and pointed shape, while the Water Guardians stand out for their arrangement and the themes reflected in their names.

The Lake Constance Cycle Route runs along the edge of the Eriskircher Ried, following the railway line between Friedrichshafen and Langenargen. You can swim in Lake Constance; Eriskirch lido also has a beach volleyball court. An opening date for 2026 is listed for the lido. Check its seasonal operating hours before your visit if you plan to go swimming there.

The wider Lake Constance District

As a broader travel destination, the Lake Constance District provides a wider geographical setting. It stretches along almost the entire northern shore of Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg and extends into the Upper Swabian Hills and, to the east, the West Allgäu Hills. The Lake Constance District has 57.7 kilometres of Lake Constance shoreline. Its landscape is shaped by the lake and the neighbouring hills, with fruit-growing areas, vineyards, meadows and forests.

Cultural attractions also complement Eriskirch’s nature and cycling highlights across the wider Lake Constance District. The Pile Dwelling Museum in Unteruhldingen is Germany’s oldest archaeological open-air museum. Its visitor route includes the ARCHAEORAMA multimedia show, featuring a virtual dive to the pile dwellings in Lake Constance. The site also includes the EXPLORER TRAIL, with a pile-dwelling cinema where experimental archaeologists introduce visitors to historical house-building techniques. The Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen offers a different focus: covering 6,000 square metres, it houses almost 400 exhibits, including 14 original aircraft and a helicopter.

The Lake Constance Thermal Spa in Ăśberlingen offers another water-themed attraction in the wider Lake Constance District. It combines thermal bathing, sauna infusions, its own bathing beach and panoramic views of Lake Constance and the Alps. Its thermal water is drawn from a depth of more than 1,006 metres and flows into all the warm-water pools.
