Since the ministerial decree of 6 September 2025, the part of Saint-Alban-Leysse on the foothills of the Massif des Bauges has officially been part of the Parc naturel régional du Massif des Bauges. This area covers almost two-thirds of the municipality. The Bout du Monde site is also among the municipal locations included in the park designation. On the upper slopes of Monterminod, the dry grasslands are classified as Espaces Naturels Sensibles.

Hiking through forest, vineyards and viewpoints

The Boucle de Razerel is a family-friendly walking trail that leads from the town through forest and vineyards into the surrounding countryside. The route passes terraced meadows; a panorama panel offers views of Mont Granier and the Chambéry basin. The loop is open year-round when weather conditions are favourable. As trail conditions depend on the weather and route management may change, check the weather and current trail conditions before your visit.

The Boucle du Bout du Monde offers a different experience: starting at the Plaine des Sports, it follows an almost flat, family-friendly interpretation trail to the confluence of the Leysse and Doria. For choosing a route based on its character, this offers a clear comparison: Razerel passes through forest, vineyards and terraced meadows, while the Bout-du-Monde trail is defined by its almost flat profile and its destination at the confluence. Check current access and maintenance conditions for this trail before your visit.

Traces of history and remarkable buildings

The Via Saturnina ran along the hillside in Saint-Alban-Leysse and was up to six metres wide. The municipal heritage app lists it as a local heritage site. The Église de Saint Alban Leysse also has a long history: it already existed in the 12th century.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Lorette is in the hamlet of Villaret; its existence was first documented in 1576. It is a small vaulted building with a semicircular apse. Above the altar is a semicircular niche in the wall containing a stone Madonna and Child. The Chapelle de Saint-Saturnin offers a different historical and landscape setting: the Gothic chapel is an old pilgrimage site in a cliff face near a climbing area. Check access to the chapel and the climbing area separately.

The Château de Monterminod dates from the 11th century. The Papeterie du Bout du Monde site is at the confluence of the Doria and Leysse, downstream from the Bout du Monde waterfall. The Papeterie is described as a paper mill; a building by the waterfall is already marked on the 1728 Sardinian map. Together with the Via Saturnina and the religious buildings, this industrial site reveals further facets of local history.

Plan your heritage and cultural activities

The municipal app “Saint Alban-Leysse Autrefois” offers an interactive map with audio commentary on local heritage sites. If you would like to use this digital guide, check the current availability of the app and its features in advance.

Since opening in March 2024, the Maison des Arts has held monthly exhibitions across all areas of the arts. As individual exhibitions and visitor arrangements may change, check the latest dates and information before your visit.

A cycling tour of the local heritage took place for the first time in 2024 and was offered again later. The documented route is about ten kilometres long. If you are considering taking part, check whether any further dates have been announced.
