A natural area in the town centre, a route along the Isère and cultural sites with very different stories offer several ways to experience Bourg-Saint-Maurice during a stay. Outdoors, a natural area and a long, gently sloping route sit side by side; cultural attractions range from a 19th-century fort to digital offerings. Cheese, local market produce and waterside activities round out the picture. This lets you make your choices according to your own interests, without turning the individual destinations into a fixed overall itinerary.

Nature and outdoor activities

The Parc des Marais is a 30-hectare natural area in the town centre. The Voie Verte offers a different setting: its 24 kilometres run along the Isère between Aime and Villaroger, passing through Bourg-Saint-Maurice. The route is accessible to pedestrians, cyclists, scooter riders, people with strollers and kick-scooter riders; the gradient is gentle. This offers a choice between a natural area in the centre and a longer route for spending time outdoors.

For directions, the tourist office is at the SNCF railway station, near the town centre, the Voie Verte and the funicular. Office arrangements can change; check the latest information in advance if needed.

Water activities and practical planning

Bourg-Saint-Maurice has an international whitewater centre. Check operating conditions before taking part. The Centre Nautique has two indoor pools, including a 25-metre sports pool. The configuration may change during renovations; if you are planning a visit, it is a good idea to check the latest information.

In front of the Centre Nautique is a nine-hole mini-golf course, with holes themed around the destination’s outdoor activities. Availability may change, so it is advisable to check before visiting. Together with the whitewater centre and pools, the course adds to the range of activities, without implying a single programme or a particular visit duration.

History and architecture

Fort de la Platte (Fort 2000) was built between 1893 and 1896. A decree dated 3 July 2024 lists the entire fort, including plot no. 1130, as a historic monument. One of its features is an exceptional viewpoint overlooking the upper Isère valley. If you plan to visit the fort, check access arrangements in advance.

The Baroque Church of Saint-Martin de Tours in Hauteville-Gondon was rebuilt in 1691. The keystones of its vaults feature original polychrome stucco relief motifs, which were revealed and highlighted during works. The town’s account describes these motifs as unique among the Baroque churches of Savoie. The Arc 1600 and Arc 1800 resorts also make an architectural statement: both now carry the “Architecture contemporaine remarquable” (ACR) label, having previously been awarded the “Patrimoine du XXe siècle” label.

Digital culture and regional products

The Micro-folie at La Friche in Bourg-Saint-Maurice–Les Arcs is a modular digital museum space overseen by the French Ministry of Culture and opened in June 2023. Check its current status before visiting. Additional virtual-reality activities include, among other things, an augmented-reality immersion at Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral; the programme may change.

The two-storey museum space at the Coopérative Laitière de Haute-Tarentaise covers 300 m². It focuses on the cooperative, its mountain pastures and AOP Beaufort cheese. Exhibition details may evolve; if you are interested in a particular topic, check the latest information in advance.

The weekly market offers local products and takes place year-round on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Vendors and product ranges may vary; the schedule may also change seasonally or for administrative reasons. So check the current date before visiting.
