Riorges combines outdoor art with trails that bring together heritage and exercise. There is also a wildlife-rich pond and a varied cultural calendar: an art trail held every two years, an annual concert programme and a spring festival held on a specific weekend in May. This makes it easy to plan your stay around your interests: would you like to discover art in the landscape, explore on foot or by bike, or time your trip to coincide with an event? These differences can help you choose a reason to visit.

Art in the Landscape and in Exhibition Spaces

A striking natural feature is the Plaine de la Rivoire: this ten-hectare area is protected and classified as a « Site naturel remarquable » (remarkable natural site). The biennial À Ciel Ouvert art trail runs through Riorges along the Le Renaison river and across the plain. Its site-specific installations incorporate the landscape into the art experience; the selection of works changes with each edition. The recurring trail is free and open to the public. Individual editions may also offer specific guided activities. So if À Ciel Ouvert is the reason for your trip, keep both its biennial schedule and the details of the specific edition in mind.

A different way to experience art can be found at the Château de Beaulieu. Set in a green environment, it has exhibition spaces on two floors where artists can present their work. This brings two distinct forms of art into focus: site-specific outdoor installations and exhibition spaces for artists’ presentations.

Trails and Nature by the Water

Nine marked trails, the « balades riorgeoises », combine walks with heritage discoveries. They are accessible to everyone and are also suitable for cycling. You can therefore choose to explore on foot or by bike, depending on how active you want to be; the heritage connection is part of the trails’ character either way.

The Étang du Combray offers a different focus. Rich in wildlife, it is a place to relax, enjoy leisure activities and fish. Here, natural richness and a range of recreational opportunities take centre stage, while the marked trails combine walks with heritage. If you would like to fish at the Étang, check the applicable fishing regulations beforehand.

Cultural Events Throughout the Year

Les Mardi(s) du Grand Marais offers a varied concert programme every year from September to May at the Grand Marais hall. The individual concert dates vary. So if you are planning your trip around a particular concert, check the exact date before making your plans.

The Fête des fleurs et des produits du terroir takes place every year on the third weekend of May at Parc Beaulieu. Around 100 exhibitors bring together plants, flowers and shrubs as well as cheese, cured meats, honey, hazelnuts, bread, pastries, Sablés, wine and cider. The mix of exhibitors may vary from one edition to another. If you are planning your trip around the festival, check the exact date for the year in question.

The two events have clearly different schedules: the festival is tied to the third weekend in May, while the concert programme runs from September to May. Your choice therefore depends on whether you would like to plan your trip around a specific festival weekend or choose a concert date within the season.
