A stay in La Terrasse-Sur-Dorlay can be planned from two perspectives: its network of hiking trails and its distinctive textile history. Three long-distance hiking trails and ten waymarked routes are complemented by a museum workshop with working looms, former industrial uses, and local remembrance projects. The setting in the Parc naturel régional du Pilat adds a connection to nature. When planning, you can decide whether hiking, industrial history, or local remembrance will be your main focus.

Hiking: choose a specific route

La Terrasse-Sur-Dorlay’s hiking network comprises three long-distance hiking trails and ten waymarked routes. These figures distinguish two types of offering; when choosing a specific hike, the details of the route you select are what matter. Check them before setting out and plan your day according to the route in question.

Textile production at the museum workshop

The Maison des Tresses et Lacets is a museum workshop in a former braiding factory. There, 40 wooden looms, each more than a hundred years old, make shoelaces and braid, and visitors can watch the production process. This brings historic techniques together with ongoing production: you can see not only the textile industry’s past, but also how the goods are made. The Maison welcomes visitors from March to November. Check the current opening hours before you travel.

Moulin Pinte and the themed water trail

Moulin Pinte tells a different story of industry. The site was first an oil mill dating from 1501, then a vinegar factory and nail forge. From the 19th century onward, it was used as a silk mill; throughout the 20th century, it served as a factory producing braid and shoelaces. The site also includes a themed water trail. The history of its changing uses and a water-related perspective thus come together here. Unlike at the museum workshop, where production can be observed, Moulin Pinte focuses on the sequence of industries that once operated there.

Remembrance and accounts of textile work

La Madone was erected after the First World War as a protective statue for the commune’s soldiers and was officially blessed on 1 May 1921. The Mémoire Ouvrière project presents accounts by former textile workers from La Terrasse-Sur-Dorlay. The two topics have different emphases: La Madone is dedicated to remembering the commune’s soldiers, while Mémoire Ouvrière presents voices from the former textile industry. The town’s history therefore encompasses both a remembrance with a precisely dated milestone and accounts of working life.

Nature in the Pilat

L’Écho-Lieu in La Terrasse-Sur-Dorlay is located in the Parc naturel régional du Pilat. Natural forests are the commune’s predominant natural habitat. The biodiversity observations on which this classification is based were collected through March 2021. The park setting and forest landscape give nature its own place in travel planning, alongside stories of industry and remembrance.
