La Pacaudière combines a historic townscape with surroundings shaped by ponds and pastures. There are several distinct ways to plan your visit: Le Petit Louvre and the historic houses on the central square tell the story of the town’s architectural history; a walking route links historic sites with the natural surroundings of La Pacaudière. If you prefer mountain biking, there is a signposted circular route. The Étang de Picamot is also located just outside the town center. This selection can help you tailor your trip to your interests and preferred activities.

Historic Buildings in the Town

Le Petit Louvre is designated as a royal post house in La Pacaudière. The building has a very steep roof with glazed tiles and is protected in its entirety as a historic monument under a decree dated June 9, 2023. This combines a specific historic function, a distinctive roof shape and permanent protected status in a single building.

The central square is also home to historic houses with distinct dates. The Maison Morin dates from 1420; the Maison Notre-Dame is a 16th-century house. In chronological terms, the Maison Morin dates back further, while the Maison Notre-Dame represents a later period. Together, the two houses offer a distinct perspective on the different periods of construction around the central square.

Hiking or Mountain Biking

The “Histoire et nature” walking route is a moderate 7.0 km trail in La Pacaudière. It links historic sites with the surrounding natural landscape. If you would like a route that takes in both historical themes and the landscape, this combination is already part of the trail’s character.

For mountain bikers, the signposted, moderate “Boucle 1 / L'Ascensionnelle” circular route covers 13.8 km between La Pacaudière, Le Crozet and Changy. It passes through surrounding hamlets and along paths across the plain. The route can be ridden in autumn, summer, winter and spring. By comparison, the 7.0 km walking route is shorter than the 13.8 km mountain bike loop; both are rated moderate. This makes it easy to choose based on the activity and stated distance.

Pond Landscape and Getting There

The municipal Étang de Picamot lies just outside the town center. The pond is stocked with fish every year and is open to fishing. The Bocage pacaudois is a landscape dotted with ponds, with typical pastures used to raise Charolais cattle. As well as historic houses and buildings, the area’s character is also shaped by its agricultural landscape.

La Pacaudière is served by the Péry 12 bus route. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current schedule in advance; routes and times may change. To choose what to do, a simple comparison may help: the two routes differ in mode of travel and length, while the Étang de Picamot offers fishing as another activity.
