Nine cross-country ski trails, around 17 kilometres of marked paths and a monorail coaster track about one kilometre long show the range of activities in Chamrousse. There are also the high-altitude Lacs Robert, Lac Achard as a summer hiking destination, and places for cultural and environmental learning. If you’re looking for hotels in Chamrousse, a first decision can help: should snow activities, hiking, scenery or architecture shape your stay? The options offer different highlights and give your trip planning a concrete starting point.

Cross-country skiing, trails and coaster

Chamrousse’s Nordic Park has nine cross-country ski trails. Near the Plateau de l'Arselle, there are also 17 kilometres of marked routes for walking and snowshoeing. These figures refer to different offerings: nine cross-country ski trails on the one hand, and the length of the marked routes on the other. This lets you choose which kind of activity you’d like to focus on.

The LUGE COASTER, a monorail coaster track about one kilometre long, is located in Le Recoin in Chamrousse 1650. It offers a different kind of activity from the ski trails and hiking paths. The Hike Park has around twenty routes for planning a hike. You can explore a wider choice of routes or head for a specific destination such as Lac Achard.

Lakes and natural areas

The Lacs Robert consist of four lakes at an altitude of 1,998 metres. At the bottom of a natural cirque, they cover a total area of around 28 hectares. Their number, altitude, cirque setting and approximate area give the landscape its character. The Lacs Robert are also part of the Natura 2000 network and are designated as both a classified and a registered site.

Lac Achard offers a different connection with nature: in summer, it is easy to reach on foot from Chamrousse 1750 (Roche-Béranger). It is part of the “Plateau de l'Arselle et lac Achard” Sensitive Natural Area and is also located in a Natura 2000 zone. This gives you a seasonal excursion destination with a specified starting point for your plans; the Lacs Robert, by contrast, are a group of four lakes in a natural cirque.

Culture and environmental learning

The Église Saint-Esprit is a building erected in 1967 by architect Pierre Jomain. It has been recognised as a work of 20th-century contemporary cultural heritage in Rhône-Alpes. This gives your stay a specific architectural point of interest in addition to outdoor activities.

The Maison du Patrimoine et de l'Environnement presents Chamrousse’s environment through exhibitions. There is also an educational trail alongside the Maison, in the large natural areas of the Belledonne. It introduces key aspects of pastoral farming, wildlife and plant life, beekeeping and sustainable development. The exhibition and trail have different focuses: one presents Chamrousse’s environment through exhibitions, while the other covers several subject areas as part of an educational offering. Culture and environmental learning can therefore also be among the options you consider when choosing your stay.
