Discover Saint-Jeoire through its architectural history, mountain views and seasonal activities. La Tour carrée and Château de Beauregard represent different historical themes; Pointe des Brasses and the River Risse complete the picture with mountain and river landscapes.
Tower, Church and Château
La Tour carrée dates from around the year 1000 and was originally part of the Church of Saint-Georges. The square tower was restored in 1988. The Church of Saint-Georges retains all the features of the Lombard Neo-Gothic style, both inside and out. The tower’s medieval origins and the church’s stylistic character therefore offer distinct architectural points of interest.
Château de Beauregard combines residential and defensive history. Since the 13th century, it was the residence of the lords of La Fléchère, who later became counts. In addition to serving as a residence, the château originally defended the centre of Saint-Jeoire-en-Faucigny. The building also includes a stair tower built in the 14th century, with steps made of unworked marble. These details give the château both a historical role in the town and a distinctive architectural feature.
Mountain Views and River Landscapes
Pointe des Brasses reaches an elevation of 1,503 metres. From there, you can enjoy views of Mont Blanc, Chablais, Môle and the Arve Valley. The Boucle de la Pesse offers a different kind of view: it leads to a series of panoramas of Mont Blanc and Môle. This makes it possible to experience a named high point with its panorama and several viewpoints along a route as distinct landscape experiences.
The Risse also shapes the landscape: the river runs through Onnion and Saint-Jeoire, and its banks are wooded and shady. Its crystal-clear water is suitable for trout fishing. If you are planning to fish, check in advance which access options are currently available.
Saint-Jeoire is also on the described route of a discovery circuit through the Giffre Valley and to the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval: after Pont de Fillinges, the route continues via Saint-Jeoire. This is a specific point of reference for travellers who wish to include this circuit in their plans.
Seasonal Activities
The Massif des Brasses has both an alpine ski area and a Nordic ski area. A free ski bus connects the alpine area at Chaîne d’Or with the Nordic ski area at Plaine-Joux. The shuttle is a seasonal winter service; check the current operating days before travelling. This lets you take both types of ski area and their seasonal connection into account when planning.
Outdoor climbing sessions are also seasonal: Saint Jeoire Escalade offers them from May, weather permitting. Check the current arrangements for session dates before your visit. This clearly distinguishes the conditions from the winter ski bus service: outdoor climbing depends on the weather, while the shuttle is described as a seasonal winter service.
